|| February 21, 2016 - 11:00 AM (local time)
|| JoCo Cruise 2016 is a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas celebrating music, comedy, and general nerdery.
The 2016 cruise will depart from Port Canaveral, Florida on Sunday, February 21 and return on Sunday, February 28th, with ports of call at CocoCay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.
Performers include Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm, and friends from across the music, comedy, gaming, and writing worlds.
We've had several Farkers come along on previous cruises, including Drew in 2013/2014 and Mike in 2014/2015. It's an awesome time.
Here's the press release version:
The organizers of JoCo Cruise, the oceangoing festival/convention celebrating music, comedy, and general nerdery, are pleased to announce its sixth annual sailing. JoCo Cruise 2016 will depart from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas on February 21st and return on February 28th, with ports of call at CocoCay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.
The JoCo Cruise is unlike any other event cruise. Originally centered around Jonathan Coulton's fan base, it has grown and evolved into a community of creative makers and technorati who gather once a year to celebrate their favorite things, and discover new interests. Veteran participants and newcomers alike enjoy the welcoming Summer Camp vibe, amazing personal connections, and feeling of community and shared sensibilities that make JoCo Cruise many people's favorite week of the year.
JoCo Cruise is hosted by internet superstar Jonathan Coulton ("JoCo") and co-produced by nerdy impresarios Paul and Storm; complete 2016 performer and guest lineup will be announced in the coming months. Previous JoCo Cruise performers have ranged from notable entertainers (John Hodgman; Wil Wheaton; Grant Imahara (Mythbusters)), to indie rockers (Aimee Mann and Ted Leo; Pomplamoose), and to New York Times bestselling authors (John Scalzi; Patrick Rothfuss). And, of course, lots of nerd-world favorites like YouTube powerhouse Hank Green; webcomic creators Randall Munroe (xkcd) and Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal); and Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and RiffTrax.
JoCo Cruise also features a 24/7, 4,000 square foot Game Room (haunted last year by notable tabletop game designers, including the legendary Steve Jackson), and daily events. In addition to concerts, high-energy dance parties and big-stage karaoke, events and activities have included fez-and-mustache theme parties, tabletop gaming tournaments and demonstrations, writing panels and workshops, midnight readings of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and a participatory Star Trek-like bridge simulator ("Artemis"). JoCo Cruise even has its own custom beer, supplied by Mystery Brewing and provided to attendees at opening and closing night cocktail parties.
JoCo Cruise's activities are also shaped by the amazing group of people who attend, many of whom host their own events (the "Shadow Cruise"), facilitated by JoCo Cruise. All week long new friendships are forged, old ones renewed, and elbows of attendees and Official guests rub together throughout the ship.
"All-in" prices starts at $1,332 per person for an Interior cabin, which includes all stateroom charges, taxes/fees, and prepaid gratuity. Outside-view cabins start at $1,581; Balcony at $1,898; and Suites at $2,432. All prices are per person based on double occupancy. Booking for JoCo Cruise 2016 will begin in late March of 2015, ONLY on jococruise.com, where you can find more complete details.
