Jaxxon made his debut in one of the earliest tales of Star Wars' sprawling expanded universe in Marvel's Star Wars #8

I can still remember reading that over and over again as a kid with the TIE fighter attack song from the first movie as a soundtrack.

Marvel came up with a space-faring RABBIT!??!?

Christ.  Next thing you know, they'll bring in a raccoon.

LOL I read the original comic with Jaxxon ages ago and even as a kid I was WTF.    I like he is back and is now canon.

TFA tells you, but sure, I guess reading half a page of text in a large font is hard:

It's different because the character famously enraged George Lucas to the point of explicitly banning him from the canon, and he only pops up subsequently as a direct jab at Lucas' poor writing and stupidly arbitrary micromanagement.  This causes his appearance in the new canon to be so nonsensical that it wraps back around to being kind of funny again, since Lucas obviously now has fark-all to do with Star Wars.

So, basically, no difference, just some stupid characters.

The Star Wars universe isn't some sacred world like Lord of the Rings or Dune.  It is just a movie designed to sell dolls under the moniker of "Action Figure" to adolescent boys.

In other words: whenever some asshole complains that something(jarjarmidechlorianstoomanygirls) is ruining Star Wars. Just point out that this has been canon for decades.

In your limited and woefully stunted imagination only action figures are sold.

The fish-heads were on Star Trek TNG, and they were too weird for words.

Ghastly: Get ready to hear the Righteous Indignation from all the Star Wars fans.

The article is wrong. The comment thread clarifies things. Not "every" new story is canon. A lot of the stories for little kids are non-canon, and this Jaxxon story is one of them. This is official. The Story Group never said every Star Wars thing would be canon from now on. They said that every novel, video/film/television project, and the main Marvel Comics titles would be. Video games will be canon where they are not contradicted by other media. Kiddie stories and comedy stories and games (for example, Lego Star Wars titles) are non-canon unless they're explicitly marked as canon.
