It's hard to think of clever things each week to put on the submission.

Don't Wikipedia the show either. Apparently there are other countries besides America and they play the show on TVs before we get to see it here.

Other countries besides America?  No such balderdash.

I found that out by checking reddit.  People have seen the whole thing already.

Is anybody else turning on subtitles when the Captains aren't on screen?

Subtitles are always on at our house.

I'm not deaf but I think the sound editing in most shows and movies is dreadful.  The background noise and music is at the same level as the conversation.

This thread is the first time I became aware of this series. Is it worth watching? I enjoyed the book several years ago.

Since there's no Fargo, I don't mind saying this is the drama of the year.

This show grabbed me from the start. There's just something compelling about it, although I can't argue that it is slowly, deliberately paced.

I'm glad the article mentioned Adam Nagaitis, his character is my favorite, and there are a lot of interesting characters in the mix. I want to call him a weasel but he's more than that. He's ambitious where most of the other characters seem satisfied with their lot in life, he wants more.

Great comparison.  Outcomes are driven by characters following their nature.  Like Thrones, before it became unabashedly spectacle-driven.

I watched the first episode and just haven't been compelled to continue. Not that it's bad, but it was slow. I am going to come back to it on my day off. How many eps would you suggest I give it before I figure out if I should just tap out?

Things perk up in the second episode, as much as this show does 'perk' at any rate. So I think if by the end of that episode you still aren't buying it, give it a pass.

Spoiler:
It ends involving this (I remembered mentioning this in an early thread. Haven't been watching it yet but will at some point)

I once bought a big DVD set of 'Rumpole of the Bailey', but there were no captions and most of the story lines involved Cockney criminals, of whom I could barely understand what they were saying.

Long ago, Benny Hill was regularly on television here in So California. I watched that show every chance I could get. At first I couldn't understand a tenth of what they were saying, but most of his comedy was visual so it didn't matter. But over time I couldn't help but learn to understand. So now characters in a show like this are perfectly understandable to me. Yay for Benny Hill the educator!

Subtitles are always on at my house. We find it much easier to follow the story when paying less attention, obviously due to extra screens.
