2xhelix: How the hell does a 12-year-old check into a hotel?

According to 9news (who broke the story in Australia), he pretended he had an adult sister who would be joining him presently and he was checking in early. I presume he pre-paid for the room.

Here's the original story from 9news.

You're not fooling anyone, Drew.

With a little "mentoring" and "Christian fellowship".

Send that kid to bidness school.

I don't agree with the dumbass tag - that was pretty clever, and brave.  It's an adventure he'll remember forever.  A bit dangerous, but THAT is how you run away from home.

Dumbass tag? That was pure genius!
Dude will be running a hedge fund by the age of 15.

Hookers and blow.

Whenever I read a statement like that, I immediately think "That's the person's real name, just not full name!".

My attempts at running away were perpetually fouled by Mom yelling through the jalousied windows, "Don't cross the street, and stay on the sidewalk!"

Then she'd bake cookies, leave a few on the front porch.

I don't this she going to get any allowance for the duration. Do the parents contact the credit card company and tell them it's fraud?

MMMmmmmmMMMMM <psychic hand waving> Paid up front?  Probably with a credit card?

- checks article -
Yep.

News flash folks, airlines don't give a (literal) flying fark if your kid is safe or secure as long as
1. they followed the letter of their policy so you can't sue them
and
2. they got paid

I don't blame her.

I'm betting it's fake, and/or a stunt.
Unless they have cock-height security cameras.

Also only he did not "borrow" sweet fark-all. He stole the credit card.

All of this is dumb, and all of us are dumb for believing it.

A friend of mine, we'll call him Bob, would introduce people under a pseudonym, but with their actual name.

/His name really was Bob.

I know it. I was older than this kid the one time I ran away. I made it across town to a friend's house and thought I was a rebel for that.

Was home by lunch the next day.

He's grown up. He's sobered up. Let's give him a chance.
The sh*t he was, was because of his parent's lack of parenting. They didn't even bother to be present while he was a kid.

He may completely f*ck up as an adult. But we should at least give him a running chance at being a decent one.

Harry_Seldon: I don't this she going to get any allowance for the duration. Do the parents contact the credit card company and tell them it's fraud?

Sure they might. The credit card company could then credit the amount back to their account, then sue the fraudster and his parents to recover their loss (plus expenses).

I find it somewhat fishy that the shots of him in the airport include a guy who must have been following a few steps back, just taking pictures, odd coincidence that

You'd think the kid would've noticed the two floating "A Current Affair" graphics.
