Too busy protecting their own asses. We need a duty to protect and act law.

Good cop, bad cop.

Clearly, we need to let cops retire even earlier.

Or make it random.  At the start of each month, 1/24th of cops with 29 to 31 (or whatever) years of service get surprise retirement parties.

Actually, what we need is to move away from a system where the same cops do everything that the government wants done. A lot of the responsibilities of police could be handled more efficiently in other ways.

You had one job.  It sucks, I know, but that's your job.  Hope he and the other assholes lives with the shame for the rest of their lives.

If it were as easy as another law, then Nikolas Cruz wouldn't have committed the illegal act of murder in the first place, or carried a gun onto a school, for that matter.

If I were a cop five years away from retirement, I would just shoot five random people and enjoy my five years of paid leave while I am investigated and found to have violated no technical crimes.

As long as they were black men, THIS WOULD ACTUALLY WORK.

I know what you are saying. Murders been illegal since forever. But there's a fundamental difference between legislating an act against someone who is tasked with the duty of enforcing the law and against someone who doesn't care.
The real question is, is there a difference? There should be. And if those who violate that with the powers bestowed upon them to protect, should be punished far more severely.

It was the Parkland SO, not PD.  In Florida, Sheriffs are elected officials, so any old bubba can run for the position.  Police Chiefs are hired/appointed.  I only say that as it makes the SO more political.  My opinion is that the PD guys are a little more professional and the Sheriff and his deputies are more of a good ole boy group.  PD covers the city.  SO covers the rural areas of the county.

Those actions perfectly encapsulate my views on cops. There are great ones and lousy ones, more of the former certainly but still too many of the latter.

And there is one who is never going to enjoy his retirement.

Neither Parkland nor Coral Springs have Sheriff's Offices.  They have police departments and are in Broward County, which has the Sheriff's Office.

Yes.  I meant Broward County SO.  My point was that the city cops (Coral Springs) rushed in while the Sheriffs Deputies (Broward) waited it out.

Of the 327 people shot and killed by police this year, only 63 have been black.

9 Unarmed whites have been shot and killed by police this year.  6 Unarmed black people.

63/327 = 19%     21.5M of 151.7M =14% (AA males / All US males, 2013).

One BSO ran in as soon as he arrived.  Don't forget him.

A diversity hire, a political hack and a slug hanging on for a pension. All cowards and not one of them should ever be seen wearing a police uniform ever again.

So there's no link between poverty and crime.  And 15 people is enough to draw a statistically valid conclusion.  And it's conservatives who are anti-science.
