What, were there no men running today?

/Joking
//The men probably got lost and were too stubborn to ask for directions
///Why is my wife not laughing at these jokes?

I thought Yuki Kawauchi's win was more impressive, frankly.

The fact that he's a part-time runner is pretty astounding.

2 different American women with unlikely victories in NY and Boston.  I'm happy for them but the Lance Armstrong / McGuire Sosa / Ken Griffey Jr thing is too recent to not be suspicious.

He's also won multiple marathons around the world, just not one as high-profile as this one.

the NY marathon was won by someone who has been a consistent top finisher and finally managed to score a win and today's race clearly had a lot to do with the weather. last year it was 80+ and sunny, this year started at 38 and switched between cold rain and strong winds. the american and canadian runners had a natural advantage over the usual east african powerhouses because they train and live in this sort of weather and the east african's rarely even encounter it at all.

Kawauchi is my new favoritest runner.   He took off like a bat out of hell and out-toughed everybody.

Linden's win will deservedly get the press, of course, but the bigger story? 21 of the top 25 women were from the US. Non-US-finishers are #3 Krista Duchane (CAN), #9 Edna Kiplagat (KEN), #10 Hiroko Yoshiatomi, Hiroko (JPN), and #21 Joanna Bourke Martignoni (AUS). Hell, #4, Jessica Chichester, didn't even have an elite bib. The depth of the American women's side is stunning.

On the men's side? 19/25. The men's field is deep too.

We may well be seeing the beginning of a renaissance for US distance running.

Yes.  Griffey Jr kept pace with the likes of McGuire and Sosa and Belle, and Brady Anderson hitting for numbers that nobody else did because he was super magic.
Or he did PED's.  Tough to tell, really.

Aren't you thinking of Cal Ripken Jr.?
Or is this another one of those Fark memes?

That $150k she gets for the win should help her expand her bourbon collection.

Seriously awesome to see two grinders like Kawauchi and Linden get the win.

It's actually easy to tell because you could go back and actually watch Jr. during those years you are mentioning and realize he really wasn't performing at the over the top level of those other guys. If Jr. was on the juice he would have been hitting 80 dingers when Mark and Sammy were not even breaking 70. During Bonds' "clear & cream" era Ken was spending all his time on the DL.

It's easy to pick a name from the record books with a lot of home runs next to it but actually putting some thought and research into a post before talking out of your rear end seems to be pretty tough

I knew I recognized her from somewhere, didn't realize she was the bourbon marathoner.

Go look at your power hitting leaders through the mid 90's.

After that we need to have a little talk about Santa and the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy.

Even the Easter Bunny knows that never hitting more than 56 home runs in a season despite having the sweetest swing since Ted Williams means that you're clearly not on the juice. Especially in an era where everyone is breaking records right and left but not doing it with consistency as Ken Griffey jr. did.

Or I guess you and Santa Claus can keep repeating the same tin foil hat theory over and over again until somebody other than yourselves starts to believe it. Afterwards we can have a little discussion about the moon landing and 9/11
