Watch out for tornados in the Northeast. Who knows what could happen.

Basking sharks, subby.  Ergo plankton eaters.  I'm not familiar with any plankton sailing boats.

Slightly on topic, I missed the thread on the Meg trailer. After reading the book a long time ago I thought they'd play it a little more straight. And I pictured Patrick Steward in the role. The trailer looked sort of goofy. Jaws is like the only shark movie that played it straight.

Blizzards, sharks, stockbrokers, and orange slumlords; sounds like plenty of reasons to stay out of the northeastern U.S..

Actually in this case the food is microscopic plankton, which means it goes where the nutrients, sunlight and temperatures are most complimentary to their lifecycle.

Probably attracted by a bloom if they are filter-feeders, but I suppose they could be mating as well. We know very little about shark's mating habits as nobody has ever caught them in flagrente, but there are shark nurseries along the US coast (one just off Long Island, near New York, apparently).

And sharks know if they want their kids to be successful they have to start them off in the right nursery.

You know even if these aren't maneaters, if  they are sucked up by a tornado and thrown at you with tornado force speed, your day will be ruined.

The sharks, which are known to be a solitary species

WERE, Were known.  You have seen the in large groups 10 times in 30 years.  That is what is known as a pattern.  You thought they were solitary, but now have empirical evidence that you were wrong.  Time to change your hypothesis.

FTFA:
The study also suggests that these huge sharks, that can grow up to 32 feet, may have gathered together to reduce the drag caused by having their mouths open while feeding.

Ok, now you are just making shiat up.

The drag is proportional to the flow of water through their mouths, which is proportional to the amount of food they get.  Let me give you a hint.  People don't go to bars at happy hour, when the bars are crowded, so that it is harder to get served alcohol,  They go to get laid.  Let me throw this up on the wall and see if it sticks.....

Maybe this isn't about drag, or food, maybe you found a basking shark singles bar.
