If by flock you mean paddle forlornly by themselves and if by waves you mean gentle swells.

wonder if the good folks at Fox 8 know that Avid allows you to edit video? You know, cut a 10 minute video to an interesting 90 seconds of actual surfing or paddle-boarding?  Cool to watch the guy paddle out of frame for two minutes and the ragged pan to get him back in frame really sold it.

jlt: We have our sailboat on Lake Erie. The waves build up very quickly because it is so shallow.

We just stay in the West part of the Lake...South Bass, Kelley's Island and Pelee Island mostly.

We've been out there with 10 foot waves and I learned that I could successfully throw up over the side of the boat without any blowback or mess.

But does Lake Erie give up its dead?

seadoo2006: GORDON: I live very near Lake Erie.

I would bet that approximately 5% of the water going over Niagara Falls flowed through the septic systems of all the hundreds of thousands of houses that still have no access to a sewer system... Like me!  My shiat and piss go through 2 tanks for the solids to settle, then 200 yards to a creek, then 5 miles to the lake. Just like everyone else in our town of 2000... and just like hundreds of other small.towns.

No thanks, Lake Erie watersports.

Lake Erie has 116 cu mi of water in it, or about 130 trillion gallons of water. If every person in the state of Ohio used the lake as their septic system, with each person using 100 gallons of sewage per day, that would account for only 401 billion gallons of sewage per year, or a little under 0.3% of the total volume of the lake. Given that the entire volume of the lake is replaced every 2.6 years, you are talking about at MOST, if EVERYONE in the state dumped 100 gallons of sewage into it per day, less than 1% of the water going over the falls would be sewage.

The smallest of the Great Lakes is still YUUUUUGE and, besides, most septic systems just use the soil itself as the filtering agent before being recycled into ground aquifers.

Your concern, while noted, is entirely hilarious, and false.

You are forgetting about the homeopathy principle.

That first one is less than a mile from my work. I've been on the shoreway three lanes in and had a wave crash over the road and fling a fish onto my hood, also pushed me over one whole lane.

Yes, but was it rippable bro?

robodog: It's actually a triumph of environmental regulation that a river and lake system which was on the brink of collapse less than 50 years ago is now very healthy.

That triumph had more to do with the iron gut that zebra mussels have.

seadoo2006: Panatheist: funny how you never hear that, it's as if they want people to be afraid of their own natural water sources and flock to buying bottled water

I know people that refuse to swim in Lake Erie because "it's dirty." Meh, more lake for me to enjoy.

Corporations want to take the great lakes away from the people. All that lakefront is being planned for rich people to buy up, and all the water will belong to nestle in time

FTFA:  All of the surfers on the water were wearing full-body wet suits.

I'm going to assume the reporter is clueless as to the existence of dry suits or the video missed the part where the surfers were treated for hypothermia.

Um, the lake is quite clean these days. The only major pollutant of any concern is the nitrogen runoff from farms in the western basin which causes toxic algae blooms. That's actually a good thing since in the 70's not even the algae would grow. Amazingly the health has gotten so good in the last decade that they've lifted all recommendations on the number of fish per year eaten from the lake. It's actually a triumph of environmental regulation that a river and lake system which was on the brink of collapse less than 50 years ago is now very healthy.

/Though this week with all the rain I don't think I'd go in
//We still need to fix our combined storm and sanitary sewer system
///$3B and going up every year is the current expected cost, I'm expecting over $6B by the time we actually get done with the project
