FTA: Consider last year's highlights:
President Donald Trump told Liberty University graduates that Americans worship God, not government, and to "relish the opportunity to be an outsider..."

...This year has some notable speakers across the nation as well. Here are the top political figures to watch for their remarks...

Jimmy Carter
The 93-year-old former President of the United States will address Liberty University's graduating class on May 19
.

Wow. I doubt Carter will say anything directly critical of Trump, but the contrast is pretty striking.

Justin Trudeau will be speaking to NYU's class on May 16. Will Ivanka make a guest appearance?

Chuck Schumer has been doing my HS for the last umpteen years. Had two kids graduating in different years and good ole Chuck uses the same speech, year after year. No one wants to hear his crap, just hand out the diploma's and get on with it.

Kids will figure it out that life if tough on their own.

I thought you said my some of my favorite politicians would be giving such speeches.

You neglected to add the qualifier "least".

I'd be interested in:
Carter.
Winfrey.
Trudeau.

Are these speakers paid? Yes= how much?
I've heard that some political speakers charge a pretty penny, but does that include graduations? Or is that like pro bono?

Sorry, to clarify, I'm interested in these speakers as I like them and would like to hear more on how they think.
My knowledge of the others is poor to none.

Carter has a soft spot for dictators. He might just suck up through force of habit.

CSB: My first commencement was Keith Olbermann (ESPN Keith, before he was went off the rails).  My second was Bill Clinton. My dad didn't go to either.

2018-04-16 08:34:09 AM
My first commencement was Rush Limbaugh, so I didn't go.  Instead I opted to work the grill at Dairy Queen, it was preferable to listening to that a-hole give advice to kids. I ghosted so hard that the school's office called my mom 4 months after graduation asking if I wanted my H.S. diploma, to which my reply was, "why?"  Almost 25 years later, I still don't regret skipping my graduation or actually have a physical high school diploma, I think my mom put it in my baby book and said fark it after I got my degree.

My college graduation, I don't remember, by then between playing in the Orchestra, friends and family I'd attended upwards of 20 graduations and was sick of them in general.  The only thing I heard when I sat through  my college commencement was my and my wife2be's names.

I'm going to see Ben Carson. Doctor, I've been having problems with insomnia, and what can you do to ZZzzzz....

Honestly, I couldn't tell you who was speaking at my graduation ceremony. All i know is that my graduating class was around 1500 students and it was 101 degrees outside. People were dropping like flies.

We got Colin Powell before he was famous since his son graduated the year before.  Lousy speaker.

Since I work at colleges, I've been to dozens of graduations.  I can't remember even one memorable speech

I can name my high school and graduate school speakers, but not my bachelor's degree. I can't remember anything that was said.

No.  I wouldn't travel ten minutes to hear a politician.  You've got to be a bit mental to even consider it.

Sometimes  they donate speaking fees to charity.

There is a joke about cum laude in there somewhere, but I'm not magna  enough to figure it out.

Scott Pruitt's going to give one using his Cone of Silence.

The Chancellor of KU gave the same speech every year, but just changed the names and the events that happened.
I impressed some people in my law school graduating class by making "predictions" on what he was going to say next. But someone had to go ruin the joke.

2018 will be the first high school graduation in years I can skip, after two kids, five stepchildren, and a niece. 2019 will be the last high school commencement (my nephew) and the first college graduation with several others to follow. I've learned to zone out during speeches, but often start snoring.

Don't get the attraction of politicians, other than they're not likely to offend anybody with general remarks about a great nation, bright future, being the new crop of leaders (in about 40 more years) and crap like that.  Our high school class had the district school superintendent (really searched for that one, eh?)   College, I don't know, I finished mid-year and didn't go in June.

You're not an outsider... hint, hint.

Boring Story Bro:
My high school commencement speaker was Juan Williams. Didn't hear a farking word he said, though, as we were in an equestrian center and they don't really set up the building's acoustics for the middle to hear anything (why do horses care about that shiat?). My parents told me it was a halfway decent speech.

My college commencement speaker was some mining bigwig from South America, quite possibly Chile. Speech was given a few months before the 33 miners got trapped. Not sure if the speaker worked with that company. Most boring speech ever.

One of the commencement speakers at my sister's college graduation was Seth MacFarlane. He ripped the prestigious university -- including its students -- a new one. So many were pissed. It was especially funny because students were the ones who invited him in the first place.

Sometimes they kick their fee back to the school. It's an easy tax deduction.
