There's a fundamental problem here and it's not clear how to solve it.

Trump is a symptom of willful ignorance disease and the right wing lie machine, not the cause. He may be a complication that threatens to kill the patient, yes, but getting rid of him doesn't solve the problem. If anything, we're lucky that the Trump complication is so far treatable (can you imagine if Trump and everyone around him had a collective IQ higher than room temperature?)

But the same problem exists at one more level of remove. Imagine that CamAnal and Prince and the rest of them swung from ropes tomorrow. Horray? Not really... because the prime mover behind this systematic export of corruption and misery is still there: Putin's Russia. They'll find new evil pieces of shiat to do things.

What do you do about a nuclear armed state whose only exports are (a) oil (b) illegal drugs (c) kleptocracy and thugocracy? This shiat won't stop until that prime mover is ended.

Frankly, in light of this, I have a hard time crapping on China's moves *away* from democracy. If you were China and looking at liberalizing reforms, then realized that there was a worldwide, systematic attempt to corrupt democracies, what would YOU do?

It's not even just Putin. It's the entire 'conservative' ideology that glorifies ignorance, jingoism and xenophobia, all to feed a handful of ultra-wealthy parasites.

60+ million Americans support the likes of Donald Trump and all the shiat that's been done in his name. That's tens of millions of Americans who believe anything is justified as long as they're stigginit to the libs. Americans who don't mind getting screwed as long as the demographics they've been trained to hate are getting screwed even slightly harder.

Putin didn't create that. Sure, he helped it spread, but it's been a problem for far, far longer.

You're probably right. But exposing all of this should at least cause Russia problems. This whole mess was years in the making just like 9/11 was as much a part of the 93 attack on WTC. Russia has built this for over a decade. But even so exposing collaborators should be our focus. Russia won't stop but it could delay Putin who won't be around forever.

When you have one man who started investigating a president who got sketchy help from a foreign kleptocracy, overturn that rock and find mob money laundering, shady foreign relations in fragile parts of the world and wealthy private mercenaries using cyberwarfare on targeted individuals in multiple countries, you get scared for the guy.

Bottom line, I wonder if a GOP-lead Congress would agree to funds for personal security for Mueller.

Thing is, stupidity can be contained, and Putin can be contained.  He got lucky this time, but if serious jail time is meted out, you'll be hard-pressed to found another CamAnal, or recruit another Trump.  Fake news can be relegated to the dark corners of the internet, not popping up as top Google results.  The NSA is fully capable of tracking and reporting about new cyber initiatives by America's enemies.

2016 was a perfect storm of new technologies and breaking of established norms.  It was the culmination of years of problems that slowly got worse, with people hoping things would somehow sort themselves out.  I hesitate to point to a single prime mover here.  Just a lot of little/medium things that built up over time.

I bolded the part where I think you're wrong. And yes, I read the rest of your post.
Donald Trump is the problem.
Russia is gonna be Russia. They didn't have this much influence here before Trump. They won't have this much influence after Trump.
Hell, Trump is planning to meet with Putin and nobody in the White House or State Department or intelligence agencies knew.
The problem is not Russia. It's a guy indebted to Russia.
