Well, a DC universe, anyway.

Hats off to the cast and writers for natural sounding superhero family dialog.

I try and keep up.  I like how they an episode following the story arc,  then they either go off on some tangent totally unrelated or something related but a tad on the goofy side.

Last week Gambi mentioned they tracked the metas down and exterminated them,  that's why he saved Jefferson.  Maybe the higher ups kept a few secrets from Gambi as well and he thoughtthey exterminated them.

Given Black Lightning's No Kill code, I assume that they evacuated all of the unconscious mercenaries before blowing the place up.

Given the fact they seem to have a lot of crooked cops on the police force,  better that it got destroyed than "disappear from police evidence.

I'm in the weird position of acknowledging that this show is objectively pretty bad while also liking it.  I think it's because all of its pacing issues and character fark-up stem from an actual ambition to do things differently or add new elements to the usual tired formula for these shows; so where Supergirl can have a shiat episode and my reaction's "ugh, that was crap" when Black Lightning does it I'm more "huh, I was curious if that would work, guess it didn't".

The family dynamics seem a little realer to me than you usually get from TV, too.  Like the early bit where Jefferson knew the appropriate way to handle his girls growing up maturely, stated it aloud several times, and then did the wrong thing and abused his position of authority to be overprotective anyhow, without the tone of the episode giving him a pass.  You rarely get a protagonist who is allowed to just be wrong about things, or fark up even when he knows what's right and intended to do it, in superhero media or elsewhere.  At least not without it turning into some big production about how it represents a fall from grace or some other overdramatic bull.

This, more than anything, seems to be the defining assessment of this show. Not only the family dynamics but the show itself. Even the lighting and cinematography seems realer than the other CW shows.

I can't say we agree on it being a bad show, but we definitely agree on it being a very different superhero show.

Decent episode, Jennifer didn't take the family news too well.  Overall body count was pretty low by Black Lightning standards.  Greenlight lab shut down, and the lead doctor in police custody.  Annissa's new suit.. well, it lived up to the pictures that leaked weeks ago.  She's adorable, in or out of it.  Like the Vixen reference Jennifer tossed in there.

So this is an Earth with both Vixen AND Supergirl? I don't recall Supergirl ever acknowledging Vixen, so it could be Supergirl's Earth, or it could be yet another with the two of them. I haven't seen much about aliens on Black Lightning, so I'm thinking it's another Earth where both Supergirl and Vixen happen to exist.

I'm sure they'll come up with an Earth number at some point.. though they've said no crossovers with other CW shows in the first season.

Granted, I suppose they could be on Earth 1.. Vixen is there, and Supergirl visits often enough to be seen in public.

(checks around)  Huh, looks like his neighborhood is supposedly part of New Orleans.  Perhaps that explains Zombie Lala, and Lady Eve.

Yeah, I don't get it, either.  Some writers wanted them to be a couple, and that one wanted Sarah to keep shagging every other woman in the room?

It's classic CW bullshiat for no reason other than it creates a dramatic angle for them to "solve" a few episodes/seasons later. It's the reason we got a season and half of Felicity being a total coont who went from being fun and brilliant to unpleasant and dumb for no apparent reason other than to delay marrying Ollie. It's why we got weeks and weeks of drama between Alex and Maggie before they finally killed it, and now we get weeks and weeks of Alex mourning breaking up with Maggie (which was her choice because she wanted kids and Maggie didn't). A happy couple isn't as "interesting" as far as the CW writers are concerned. Discord makes for easier scripts.

It's like the CW writers don't know how to do dramatic tension without there being a "you lied!" or "I can't be with you because reasons!" angle.
