I do not like camp in most forms.
The character "RuPaul"  ( Andre Charles ) I liked.  "She"  was multi dimensional and moved beyond camp into the reality of the here and now.
Andre ( as apposed to the pronoun conflict he/she) is just a good entertainer.

Did you ever see those two together. It was painful. They hated each other. Ru Paul really hated him and what he did.

Ru Paul and Berle were on some awards show together. Berle says "I used to wear women's clothes". R.P. says "And now you wear a diaper". What a douche. How about I sock you in your fake boob?

I think it started back stage...but they drug it onstage. Basically, to understand the fight ....it would be like AL Jolson in black face trying to take credit for black actors being on the screen.

Yeah, what is the proper pronoun for Rupaul?  Are drag queens like transgender folks where they get the pronoun they choose to live as?

Probably the first to get a star forbeing a drag queen, regardless.  I'm sure there are plenty of people with stars on the walk who've done drag acts, especially in the 1970s and early 1980s they were a fairly common thing, but it's not generally the act that put most of the famous actors on the map.

My understanding is that Ru Paul specifically prefers She while in Drag and He when not. I would imagine a lot of folks who only live that way part time might be the same, but I'd let them tell me for sure.

Berle, by all accounts, was a 24/7 egotistical pain in the ass to everyone he met, and he seemed to have a problem with black people. I;m with Ru on this one. If Ru was serving sass, I'm sure Berle deserved it.

Andre is an interesting dude. He took what was essentially a burlesque act and made it into something entertaining.

Berle isn't a good analog. Mae West is better.

I tend to let most folks determine what they want to be called, be that pronouns, genders, nicknames, last names...

It is just, you know... Respectful.

I'm real pleased for him. RuPaul is exceptional at what he does, has helped launched a bunch of careers and has helped bring drag - as an artform - a little more into the mainstream. So what if he biffed Milton Berle? Who wouldn't? It's not like Berle was known for his charming personality.

You'd think that wouldn't really need stating, given that everyone who wasn't raised in a barn had to learn it with regard to mrs/ms/maam/miz by the time they were in high school. Humoring people with prefered pronouns isnt functionally different from refraining from calling someone "ma'am" due to it making them feel old.

I believe the correct pronoun for RuPaul is "hunty."

I remember clashing with the advertising agency and the sponsor over my signing the Four Step Brothers for an appearance on the show. The only thing I could figure out was that there was an objection to black performers on the show, but I couldn't even find out who was objecting. "We just don't like them," I was told, but who the hell was "we"? Because I was riding high in 1950, I sent out the word: "If they don't go on, I don't go on." At ten minutes of eight-ten minutes before showtime-I got permission for the Step Brothers to appear.

Walk of Fame nomination process

TL;DR version: you have to be active in your category (film, television, recorded music, broadcast radio, theater/live performance) for at least 5 years and have some charitable works under your belt to be eligible.  At that point, anyone can nominate you.  If selected, you have to pay a fee (often covered by your employer) and show up for the unveiling.

According to his bio, RuPaul has been working in television every year since 2008, and intermittently between 2007 and 1998.  He has also done film and live performances, but he was specifically nominated for television.

I am too, but the producers from his show kind of farked over his makeup artist. Mathu Anderson had been doing Ru's makeup since the 90s, and for some reason all of a sudden stopped. They got new people to replace him, and submitted his work for the Emmys under their name. Rupaul wouldn't be Rupaul if it wasn't for Mathu Anderson doing his makeup and wigs.

Sorry, not all drag queens host TV shows. Some stay anonymous as to their real identity, even if they perform regularly. So yes, that's how drag queens work. They aren't all RuPaul.

I don't know about that, I thought it really did a disservice to all the contestants. Forcing them to vote and what not. Rupaul didn't really get to decide anything, but the winner. It was more Survivor than a competition.

I get your point about the competition, but I the main point of being on the show is to advance your career. A lot of non winners are doing a ton of appearances.
If you are a fan and get a chance to see one of the group tours it's a lot of fun.
I took my daughter to a few starting when she was 16.
/not the only straight guy in the crowd, but I'm guessing I one of the few who was a fan of all the queens.

Yes, this is true, but it I still have an uneasy feeling about showing more drama rather than competition part. All Stars 3 cared more about drama and twists than the actual competition. That is why Ben voted herself out. I feel the twists still does a disservice to people that went on that season, even if got them more exposure. Shangela was robbed.

And her fanbase grew exponentially and she gets to bask in everyone telling her that she was robbed for the rest of her life. Kennedy is the one who should feel robbed, she won the lip sync.

RuPaul is noted for his indifference toward the gender-specific pronouns used to address him, as stated in his autobiography: "You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don't care! Just as long as you call me."[2] RuPaul has also played men in a number of roles, and makes public appearances both in and out of drag.[2]

I don't know, some of the dance moves didn't really fit the song. Yeah, she might be getting a lot of more fans because of that, but what about the queens that were forced to vote? They are getting a lot of backlash over that. Some of them are now regretting for not voting for Shangie. Drag race needs to have a fair winning outcome based on challenge wins, instead of drama and twists, or remove the competition all together.
