One other game of note tonight:

At 11pm EDT, in South Korea; it will be Canada v USA for gold in Paralympic sled hockey. USA are the two time defending Paralympic champions. And it will be the first time that the gold medal match will be CAN v USA. It's literally a match that's been years in the making.

GO LEAFS!!

Bruins are missing Chara, Bergeron, DeBrusk, and McAvoy at least.

Winning is not in their immediate future.

Also, Tuukka Rask is playing like Dookie Rask again, so we are boned. Boned!

I'll get a real good chuckle if Ottawa pulls a Leafs-esque late season run and wins their way out of the draft lottery.

Also boys and girls, don't forget the Reggie Dunlop.  1 Mike's Hard Lemonade and 1/2oz of 151, stir in a glass and serve to your lady.

Chara needs to retire after the season.

Michael Graebner doin' it for the shorties! Devils 1-0 up on LA

NicOOOOOOOOOOOOAL, and it's 2-0.

Man, all the stuff I was reading about the six-game road trip from hell, and we need to get at least six points to tread water in the playoff race, and they might have six points just from the first three games.

2018-03-17 04:59:19 PM
There was discussion in the playoff-expansion thread about different point systems, so I put together a spreadsheet and compared the standings under several different point sets:
NHL - Current rules. 2 for a win, 1 for an OT/SO loss
IIHF - 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an OT/SO win, 1 for an OT/SO loss
FIFA - 3 for a hockey win, 1 for a tie (no shootout)
Alt - 3 for a hockey win, 2 for a SO win, 1 for a SO loss
Old - 2 for a hockey win, 1 for a tie (no shootout)
Win - 1 for a win, 0 for a loss

Entering today...
Metro Division: Washington leads on NHL, IIHF, win%; Pittsburgh leads on FIFA, alt, old
Eastern top 8: Florida 9th under NHL rules; Philly and Columbus tied for 8th under IIHF rules; Philly 9th on winning percentage; Jersey 9th under FIFA, alt, old rules.
Western top 8: Dallas and Anaheim tied for 8th under NHL, IIHF, old rules; Dallas 8th under FIFA, alt; St. Louis 8th on winning percentage.

I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO MATH!  Which is why I'm glad you're doing it, because I didn't study.  Thanks, RminusQ, your projections are always interesting reading.  Cheers!

A little sad the Leafs aren't dragging out the St. Pats sweaters for tonight... This should be interesting for Pleckanec, it's his first game against his old team.

Well, there's no alternate sweaters this season with Adidas taking over for Reebok. That's almost certainly why the St. Pats sweaters aren't around.

/alternates should be back next season

Yes, and I think not this year due to the Adidas swap.

WTH Tampa?

2018-03-17 08:38:49 PM
Julienne.. Challenge that. (And he does.)  Plak was pushed, but gave the goalie a little extra love there.

Still just 2-0. Challenge wins.  Sorry Kasper.

If Tampa is going to keep playing like that, I hope Boston over takes them for the first spot. Odds of getting out of the first round going up!! Although all the Bs injuries should be slowing them down but don't seem to be, one or two more should start slowing them down too.

Keep the puck!  Andreas Johnson with #1 of his career.

2018-03-17 09:44:26 PM
Johnsson gets his first NHL goal in his second game. He's had about 8 shots this game so it was only a matter of time.

2018-03-17 09:48:42 PM
I know it's 4-0 for the Leafs, but the Montreal goalie better be one of the three stars. 48 shots, this could easily have been 7 or 8 nothing.

Rags up 3-2 at the 2nd int for anyone too lazy to look at a scores update

_/or interested I suppose

HA!

I don't see them having two lackluster efforts in a row. Hope Backes is alright. Didn't see the injury initially and thought it was an ACL. Glad it's just a cut.

Babs is expecting Matthews and Anderson back for TampaTuesday. Which is actually trending in Toronto on Twitter right now. Sad. (the trending, not the regulars back, although that shuffles Johnsson back to the Marlies fresh off his first NHL goal.. Being a solid depth guy requires all the patience, right Levo?)

The Bruins are deep. Even if they don't take over the top spot in the division they don't have a lot to worry about. It's the difference between playing the Leafs in the first round or playing a wild card from the other division...maybe even the Blue Jackets, who they play next.

I just hope they rest guys against the losers and play guys against the contenders.

Jackets are on a solid streak, 7 wins, longest streak in the league right now.. underestimating them is probably not a good idea. BUT they are only three wins from 1st in the Metro, so everything is still way the hell up in the air, wild card wise...

I wasn't thinking "underestimating". I was saying maybe the B's were overestimating the Lightning

Whoever gets out of the Atlantic will have had to deal with at least one of the best six teams in the league if not two. Hope they don't blow their brains out before getting the Prince of Wales..
