(WGNO)   Apparently there is something called a 'Yeti cooler' and these criminal masterminds were caught stealing 52 of them worth ... wait for it ... more than $16,000?   ( wgno.com) divider line

You can't show up at a Penn State tailgate party with a %&#%@ Coleman!!!!
You want people to think you are POOR!?!?!!

While searching for a cooler that will keep ice for the entirety of a hot day, I came across Yeti coolers.

What... in the actual... fark.  Coolers costing over $1,000.00.  Jesus Hussein Kreist.

My Coleman XTreme works just fine.  About 50 bucks at Wally World.

Before we get to outraged: $16,000 for 52 cookers is $300 a cooler.

2018-03-14 08:56:57 AM
$16K is probably what they charge for them.  They're "worth" about 1/3 of that.  If they had stole the 65qt, that would be ~$20K.

Get Rtic - just as good half the price (or less).

You guys clearly have no fricken idea what a Yeti cooler is. But they are damned nice and not meant for your casual user

Here's their Tundra 350, used by Game Hunters, Restaurant Owners or other people that need an extra large capacity cooler that is a reliable alternative to a refrigerator

tough to keep cool under all that fur in this era of climate change

the coleman coolers my dad bought in 1980 still work great for me

Meh, Yeti coolers are expensive, but apparently pretty top of the line when it comes to retaining cold. If I hunted regularly, I'd probably get one.

I own a yeti. Paid $200 for it used. It is worth every damn penny. If/when this badass wears out, I'll be purchasing another yeti.

It keeps my ice for over 24 hours, is rugged as hell, and has a huge capacity.

It's the Apple product of the cooler world.

2018-03-14 09:24:08 AM
Duh, Where else are you going to cool your yeti?

They're used for camping and hunting when you need a good 5 days of frozen food. They are expensive as all heck.

This is true - they are damned good coolers and will keep stuff cold far longer than the typical Coleman.

I've never found them to be worth the price they ask (I'll just dump extra ice in my Coleman, thanks), but I also don't tend to go places where I can't get ice for a couple days.

Never understood why people put the "Yeti" stickers on their trucks though - might as well post a note on the window "I have $300 in cash sitting inside, please break in and steal it."

I figured they were some kind of flavored water / juice / energy drink for millennials with wealthy parents.

At first, I thought this was just cop math. Then I googled. I cannot imagine needing a $300 cooler never mind the $1300 model.

Certified bear resistant my ass. Black bears have a culture and pass along how to enter coolers. We're losing the bear proof cooler arms race and no spoiled rich brat cooler with a fancy hairy name is going to convince me otherwise.

And by "other people" you mean those assholes who ride around in a pickup truck with a cooler full of meat, and say things like "This is your lucky day! My boss at the restaurant / butcher shop / whatever the fark over-ordered this week, and asked me to go out and sell the surplus, at a loss if necessary, to cut our losses!".

My old boss at UPS would do that after the preload shift was over. He tried to sell the crew once as we were walking out and we laughed him out of the parking lot. He eventually came clean though and admitted it was a scam.

If you need a cooler that will last for a couple days, Coleman fit the job, if you want the ice to last a week, well that is when you get into the Yeti ones but oy they are pricey

Lol, a "Yeti" sticker is by far the most sensible sticker on many a pickup truck.

If you're big game hunting in Alaska or Canada or anywhere where you're going in by bush plane they make sense, also make sense for the outfitters that do the week long rafting trips through the grand canyon (they're especially good for that, the designers were rafting guides sick of breaking coolers and losing provisions). For both of those activities the cost of the cooler is a rounding error in the cost of the trip.

Mrs.Kitty and I have been tempted by one of the smaller ones for camping. We don't want to go back to civilization partway through a camping trip to get more ice.

Yes, it's worth that much money to avoid humans and have uninterrupted time in nature. That one cooler used for several years of camping trips is worth it for the peace and quiet, and camping/hiking is cheaper than therapy.

Seriously, fark people.

Yeti sells a five gallon bucket that's 40 bucks.

2018-03-14 09:30:39 AM
The only reason we have one is the SO won one with a raffle at the local grocery store. It's been used twice, once for a Christmas party, and the other for the one time we've been camping. Both times it kept beer cold for 4 days.

And it's bear-proof. It's actually very nice. Just damn expensive.

It's like the park rangers at Yellowstone once said...

"We can't prove it, but we will swear that the bears recognize certain makes/models of vehicles and go after them because they know just how to rip the doors off."

Or a Pelican. I preferred their latches to the Yeti's rubber straps.

A Yeti Cooler truly does out perform anything else.  That said, you buy them for the same reason you buy Oakley's or a Coach purse (for the farkettes) - you want the status it brings more than the function.

/nothing wrong with that

Yetis are like redneck Cartier down here.  Green Egg grills too.

It's a status/fashion thing, sort of like chicks and those circle necklaces and quilted bags, or whatever people are into now.  Michael Kors?  Idk.  lol

I won a 50 quart Bison at a golf outing. Bison  Similar to Yeti.  If you need to keep your beer cold for days and park your vehicle on top of it to change the oil, it is great.  Serious hunters/campers need them.  It is more than I need to get my food and drink to the cottage.

Yeah, it's amazing when someone else has done the R&D work and initial product design and marketing that you can have a Chinese factory kick out knockoffs and undersell them. I mean as a consumer I love it, but as the founder or early employee who busted my butt to develop something like Yeti I'd be pretty pissed.

While I haven't been to Alaska or Canuckistan hunting, I did do an 18 day elk and mule deer hunt in Wyoming a few years ago. On that hunt, we didn't have to worry about keeping anything cold. We did pack food in coolers but that was really more to make transport easy.

That hunt was in 2010. I don't think I warmed up until 2013.
