No Mac is worth £22k.

In fact we had a $10,000 Mac in our recording studio (at my last job).  One of the buckets.
I built a $1,500 AMD system shortly before Ryzen came out for a guy who wanted to do the same kind of video work but didn't have the clout to get the $6,000 Mac he wanted.

Guess which one of the two performed better?  Yes, with Adobe Creative Cloud.

BTW, the old style Mac Pros are great systems.  I've got a 12 year old one as a Kodi system in my living room stuffed full of hard drives.  I would rather have a cheese greater than a bucket most any day.  I can do more with them - considering they have PCI Express, and they don't have nearly the warranty issues / failures.

You're right.  For some reason I comprehended "A university IT technician stole Apple Macs valued at £22,200 " as each instead of "A university IT technician stole multiple Apple Macs valued at £22,200".

When you're dealing with Apple you think in premium prices....

I've only ever saw one working one in real life out of a store and it was the very first model with the small built-in black & white monitor. I encountered more iphones the first few months they started selling.

Game on a mac? It's called bootcamp. You aren't forced to run OSX just because it's made by Apple.

Odd to see John Wayne in a contemporary movie (or contemporaneous with the time it was made).  He's almost always in westerns or period pieces.

Genuine curiousity:  How does the custom GPU firmware situation work out in that arrangement?  Back in the day you had to reflash a GPU to let it work with not-OSX and vice versa which was pretty obnoxious.

Odds are if you want to actually game on a Mac you would get a thunderbolt GPU enclosure for bootcamp.

You can use the integrated GPU in most Macs but you're looking at an Intel solution. The ones with discrete are either low end or workstation GPUs not meant for gaming. In either case you're not running anything at full detail at 5k.

In my case, the PC desktop is for play and the Macbook is for work.

Reminds me of when I worked at a university back in the way way before.  Just before I started, a second round of Macs had just been stolen from our department.  They'd all been replaced with new (and much better) machines.  A few months later, a bunch of the machines were recovered and turned over to the campus PD.  Nobody wanted them.  Wasn't worth the insurance company's time to claim them and sell them.  We didn't have any use for them.  No other department wanted the outdated machines.  Eventually, the campus cops said, "They're yours.  Get them out of here."  So my boss and I borrowed a hand truck and lugged them back to our building.  I scrubbed the drives, loaded the OS, and stacked them under my desk.  They were still there when I left.

And, no, we couldn't just give them away to a charity.  Those are recovered university assets!
