They should partner with Carnival cruise lines they're so terrible.

Suffocation ?   Heat ?   What killed the dog ?  Also , who doesn't check on the animal during the flight ?   Man this sucks all around.

Doesn't their pet policy state the carrier goes under the seat?

I know folks don't want to rock the boat out of fear of getting booted from the flight, but no farking way i would have put my dog in the overhead bin. Sad.

Sigh.
I still have my "future pilot" wings they gave me for my second flight in '68 .

It's pretty simple: Never, ever trust an airline with your pet. Airlines routinely kill pets. They don't care. They know their legal liability is highly limited. Dead pets might make a brief ripple of bad PR but that's it. Nobody will stop flying because somebody else's pet was killed.

YOU OWN THE FARKING DOG

HOW DO YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO HAVE ZERO AGENCY OVER THIS MATTER???!?!!

FA: Hey, stuff your rat in the overhead bin.
You: Uh, no?
FA: You have to. I said so.
You: Oh. Okay then.

I can only assume the dog had an important surgery to perform in the morning. R.I.P. dude...

2018-03-13 05:41:46 PM
It is obvious the travelers knew the rules and were following them to the T, and yet the FA made an incorrect decision. But adding to the stress in that situation is knowing, if you argue, they can easily pull you off the flight even if they are in the wrong.

The_Sponge: When was the last time we had good news involving United Airlines?  Five years ago?

I haven't flown UA since they bought Continental (not explicitly b/c they suck, the AA routes are easier here in PHX). But have 80k miles (legacy + Star Alliance partners) and I wonder if I should transfer them over to Marriott and close my MP account. I can't imagine voluntarily giving them money any more.

You posted while I was so sorry for the back-to-back. Any arguing with a gate agent or flight attendant quickly gets "resolved" by being escorted off the plane. Even if you are clearly in the right, it's going to be a delay while a supervisor comes over, decides to follow the rule book, then rebooks you based on available space, later. That's an awful lot of hassle when the FA was wrong. Yes the owners should have done it, but it's hard to judge how such a stressful situation is going to be handled in the moment. Who knew Dr. Dao would just go into passive-resistance mode? Not the Chicago transit police!

WTF is wrong with people?  If you're told to do something absurd, here's an idea.  REFUSE!!!

For fark's sake!

Refuse to comply, exit the plane, contact corporate.  You'll likely be on the next flight with an apology and a voucher for a couple hundred off your next booking.  I think vouchers are bullshiat but still, why would you ever comply with such an absurd direction.  Fark that stew.

2018-03-13 05:44:26 PM
Holy hell. How is that poor woman not in a fetal position. Just the the stress of traveling with a kid and a newborn would be enough, without the death of a little pup. That poor dog suffered and I hope the responsible flight attendant seriously suffers also, preferably whist waiting in the welfare line.

For all the people just saying "Just say no, refuse!" - Do you not realize that if a flight attendant or pilot decides you're a nuisance or disruption on the plane, they can boot you off immediately? And better yet if you become somewhat combative or raise your voice they'll get the authorities involved?

I'm starting to think some of you don't fly very often...

My two cents:

I'm not familiar with United's program, but if you can do it, use those miles toward international first/business class.

Failure to obey a flight attendant's instructions can get you and all your traveling companions removed from the plane, and if you refuse to leave the plane you can be beaten to a bloody pulp....especially on United.

Then take the farking delay. Jesus tap dancing Christ.  How is there even a question?

Oh, dear.  Should I be 5 hours late or should I stuff Fido in a cabinet?  Decisions decisions...

Resist + bumped flight > acquiesce + dead dog
It's easy math to me. I don't know.

At this point, if the dog absitively posolutely no-way-around-it has to fly, I'm going charter.

THIS is on the passenger for trying to get around the Animal fee, stuffing her dog into a small case, scaring the crap out of it, then leaving it for FOUR HOURS unattended in a dark overhead bin.

Furthermore, what would being bumped to a later flight do? If the flight attendant is claiming it on this flight, wouldn't the attendants on the next flight with the same airline enforce the same policy? (I know it isn't policy, but what else would you have thought?) They didn't really give these people a lot of choice.

Those of you complaining that this is on the family are either idiots, trolls, jackasses, or some combination of the three.

Um, cause now the gate agent knows what the fark is up and can intercede on your behalf, because now you're flying non-rev, because you made a big enough stink about being booted without cause?

HELLO??!?!

Did you miss your meds today or something, because you seem really agitated.

I would love to see you go onto a flight and get into an argument with the flight attendants, then the pilots, then the cops that would inevitably be called onto the plane.
