Next up to apply pressure is NY AG Schneiderman. If Schneiderman lodges charges against Manafort he could be placed in jail until trial. If house arrest is not doing the trick to flip him, a few days in Rikers island should have the needed effect.

"Given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison," wrote Ellis, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan.

Good.

If you bother to read the actual plea deal Gates reachd with Mueller just, pfffffft, 2-3 weeks ago, Manafort's name is in damn near every other sentence. Gates completely rolled on him.

The hilarious thing I find about all this is Manafort styled himself as something of a Bond figure, an international man of mystery.

So it's entirely possible he still to this day thinks he's been doing nothing wrong.

Also, he's buddies with Roger Stone from way back, that famous photo. So Manafort *definitely* has the inside info on a lot of the Team Treason goings on.

I would put him in house arrest, between him being a flight risk and the way Russian collaborators have been turning up dead lately, I would not put it past ol Vladdy not to take measures.

Hillary is gonna spend like 19 lifetimes in prison for sending emails to Seth Rich at the Benghazi embassy to approve selling Uranium One to the Russians before having him murdered and such as.  Her day of reckoning is upon us.

Nah. Even if he DOES get pardoned, he pulled all his hinky financial shenanigans in NYC, and that means Schneiderman (Schneiderman, does what ever a Schneider can) can nail him for state banking crimes as well, and every plea agreement Mueller has negotiated so far has included a clause requiring the witness to cooperate in any federal OR state prosecution where they have useful evidence....and Gates signed one of those

yeah.  teh link i posted above has the letter that states Gates will  "testify in any proceeding in the District Of Columbia or elsewhere as requested by this Office [FBI]."  page 5 of 12.  wherever Manafort is tried, the proverbial star witness (above and beyond any other evidence Mueller has already) is Gates.

Under the rules of "the game" killing one of yours, even if they defected have been granted asylum etc is one thing.  Not at all good, but ....not unheard of.   Killing on of THEIRS?   tantamount to a declaration of war, and even with feckless Trump at the helm there are people at CIA who know how to answer such challenges, and when you cross that line, it really is gloves off

No, not good. I mean, it's probably true as far as it goes, but the timing is a huge problem. For the judge to say something like this before the case begins leaves them vulnerable to accusations of prejudice, which could cause a mistrial. I don't want to see Manafort get away on a technicality.

Though I still say that if he's this much of a flight risk, he should wait for his trial behind bars. No condo for him.
