Well barring some catastrophic change in leadership in the Saints front office, Drew is going to retire wearing black and gold. Which is fine by me as a Saints fan - I just hope they make the right choices in heir apparent going forward the next couple of years.

(too bad we don't have an Aaron Rodgers skulking around in the org, unless we do and I just can't see it)

Maybe Taysom Hill?  I'm looking forward to preseason to see how he does.  And with Drew signed, I hope they can add a few extra pieces to help the O on third downs, and the D continue to improve.

Going to be weird if Brees and Brady retire the same year.

He's one of those guys who are so intertwined with their cities that you really can't imagine them leaving.  Like Rodgers or Brady, they're expected to retire in place.  That's why Favre was so sad.

It was probably the Browns.  I think he might have thought harder about retirement until he saw what Kamara/Ingram brought to the table.  Who wouldn't want to be a QB in a situation like that?

Heard talk they were looking at him as well. no clue how seriously though.

I always figured the only way Brees was leaving the saints was when he hung up his cleats for good.

Favre as a Jet
Brees as a Charger
Kosar as a Cowboy
Namath as a Ram
Steve Young as a Buccaneer
Unitas as a Charger
Montana as a Chief

They're all just... weird.

FTFY.

I hope to hell they skip over Graham and instead opt to find a couple decent linemen on each side of the ball.  There's a couple decent TEs that can catch who actually block in the draft.

Ingram has had pretty good last couple of years, he's just  not Alvin Kamara. They complement each other so well.

Also I too am in the mode of finding more blocking TEs than catching TEs right now. It's easier to teach a blocking TE to catch than the other way around, to me.

LOL, they dumped Brees so they could draft Jeff George v2.0. That worked out pretty well for San Diego, right?

And actually  they already drafted rivers when brees was still there. Unfortunately brees had his breakout season that same year.

Dude, WTF?  They drafted Rivers and still had Brees.  Rivers sat on the bench.  The playoff game, Brees scrambled for a fumble, and hurt his shoulder.  That was a contract year for Brees, and the Chargers said hey, we like you, but there's no guarantees you're going to be the same player coming back from shoulder surgery, so we're not giving you a huge multiyear contract.  The Dolphins and Saints were interested in Brees, and the Saints were DESPERATE for a QB, so basically, over payed for him.

Phillip Rivers

Career Games    QBrec        Cmp%    Yds'    Y/A    TD    Int    TD/INT Ratio
196        106-86-0    64.2    50348    7.8    342    166    2.06

Drew Brees

Career Games    QBrec        Cmp%    Yds'    Y/A    TD    Int    TD/INT Ratio
249        142-106-0    66.9    70445    7.6    488    228    2.14

Overall, pretty good comparison between the two.

The Chargers and Saints teams are pretty comparable, too. There were several years there was a notable lack of talent around Brees/Rivers.

The Saints have just enough cap space, as long as they cut Morestead, to try and trade for Patrick Peterson. He has 3 years left and his 3rd year is easy to walk away from with less than $1MM in dead money. Go get him and put him across from Lattimore for the next 2 years to help bring him along. Then as soon as you are ready to give Lattimore his first big contract you can cut Peterson and use that money to pay him. That locks down your defense completely and gives Drew the best help he has ever had on that side of the ball. Drew has shown that he can create with the current offensive personnel. Let him do it again. Throw draft picks at Arizona till they give you Peterson. They are not competing with Bradford as their QB and they know it.

I seem to remember him having some good games with Seattle in the second half of the season. Plus he'll have A-aron throwing to him. I think I could resurrect my non-existent career with A-aron as my QB. It'll be interesting for sure.

I don't know if it's Rodgers, McCarthy, or what, but the Packers don't really love tight ends.

I thought Jared Cook was gonna blow up there. He didn't. I thought Martellus Bennett was gonna blow up there. He didn't.
