Parents can now look on with pride as their offspring rack up accomplishments like "watching every episode of Fuller House"

Or you could just water board the kid, it would be a lesser violation of the Geneva Convention.

Children Farkers are foolish and willful, as every parent Drew knows, but under certain circumstances you can leverage their foolishness to stem their willfulness. For instance, you can often make them do what you want them to do by rewarding them with worthless valuable trinkets feedback such as stickers Smarts and Funnies on a chart comment.

I wish Netflix carried more foreign language movies. Or really, more Italian language movies. It'd be a good way for me too keep up with the language and not lose my Italian skills.

Just watch that 30 minutes of The Godfather over and over again. That should work, right?

Yes. TV is the only thing that keeps the kids from bothering Daddy during drinking time.

What the actual fark.

I was just reading an article on television / digital interaction and how it may degrade (or at least not train) executive function in children. Relevant quote: "A team of researchers at the Brookings Institution recently argued that constant distraction is eroding children's executive function, a term that the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard defines as 'the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully.'"

So, uh, yeah, fark Netflix with a rusty spork. I'm just going to hope this is a jump on an April Fool's Day joke.

I remember when the trophies and achievements were watching the baddie NPCs explode into clouds of ludicrous gibs and managing to hunt-down and kill every baddie on the entire map.

My parents used to make TV and video games family time too, as well as doing stuff outside and all that good stuff. I see my friends do the same with their kids now and don't really see it being a bad thing. As long as parents keep the usual concepts of moderation and encouraging other activities too, it doesn't seem terrible to add a dinky element that might be fun for some people.

There are already plenty of YouTube videos of people watching TV.  It might have been sooner, but I noticed it growing to be a thing with Game of Thrones.

If you want to corner the market, you need to go deeper.

I'm thinking a version of RiffTrax that just mocks the people watching TV, their clothes, their decor.  They should probably be over-the-top flaming gay, like Men on Film from In Living Color. That would up the watchability quotient by at least 37%.

The first GoT ones I saw were reaction videos (though the first reaction videos I recall were "watching 2g1c") and maybe I'm just assuming, but I figure between the prevalence of those reaction videos and the rise of livestreaming / twitchstreaming that "watch {x} along with me" was already a thing

Does my kid need more screen time?  No.  Does he need something to distract him so he doesn't watch so many damn youtube videos of annoying British guys playing videogames?  Hell yes.  I should probably ban him from watching youtube videos about people playing video games, but that seems like a losing battle.

I do that. If I need it that badly, I'll drop off the network real quick and use some cellular data.

Its de-evolution. All they do is watch the same two dipshiats play minecraft or dare each other not to laugh while watching other youtube videos.
