Go ahead and fix it.  Raise his premiums to $50K/month for the Ferrari alone.  We'll see how long before he sells it.

An investigation by CTV Vancouver recently found that the insurance premium on a $700,000 Ferrari is approximately four times the premium paid for a $16,000 Honda Civic, despite the Ferrari being worth more than 40 times the value of the Honda.

Yeah, but as a general rule, most of your insurance is for liability, not for the (potential) damage to your own car.  The COLLISION portion of the insurance ought to be a lot more than the COLLISION portion of a Honda Civic, but the liability should be the same.

Can any BC Farkers explain this to me? From the article, it seems like the government is footing the bill for the repairs.  Is car insurance in BC basically single-payer with costs paid for through taxes?

That seems...dumb.

If he had any sense of dignity, he'd suck it up and pay his fair share for his own fark-up driving his penis surrogate into a farking lamppost instead of whining like a biatch that his insurance isn't paying the whole cost.

This will sound odd to non-Canadians:
The NDP provincial government has raised taxes on luxury vehicle sales, but not on insurance premiums.
"There should... be some sort of a relationship between the premium paid for these high (end) vehicles and the ones that we pay at a lower level," Bruce Cran, of the Consumers' Association of Canada, told CTV Vancouver.
An investigation by CTV Vancouver recently found that the insurance premium on a $700,000 Ferrari is approximately four times the premium paid for a $16,000 Honda Civic, despite the Ferrari being worth more than 40 times the value of the Honda.

If that sounds like government work, it's because in the 1970s that government started insuring cars, and still has a monopoly on some insurance. Universal, affordable, compulsory.

Too much car for you, dim son.

Driving a muscle car doesn't take a brain surgeon. It takes somebody who can really, really handle a car.

Many of these are muscle heads.

Ask Jeremy Clarkson about most luxury and super-sporty cars. Or let me tell you the gist of what JC thinks about over-built, over-stearing cars:  they're shyte. They are as comfortable and fun to drive as a crate of German cabbages. In fact, many of the worst were designed and built by a crate of German cabbages.

And now for something different:  the World War II flying ace sketch.

Palin: Um... cabbage crates coming over the briny?

2018-03-13 11:12:43 AM
Muscle heads drive muscle cars.

There has to be a sort of empathy between the beast and the animal it drives, like horses, say.

Many of the people who are good with horses share the intelligence and the perversity of the other beast.

They become a sort of centaur, a beast with two heads.

Nope. The liability should be higher on the ferrari. Proportionally I will guarantee you ferraris have a higher instance of both single car and multi-car collisions than any model of civic.

So at first I was like: "maybe per mile travelled"

But then I googled for the most crashed car from 2013-2015 model years.

Ferrari 458, by a country mile.

In the same year (2012), the 458 Italia had more horsepower, better top speed, better styling (imo), and had an msrp of 400k. He could have bought 3 Italias for the price of one used F40.

I get it...it's a prestige/collector thing. But imo he chose poorly.

No, the liability coverage rate should be exactly the same.

Car insurance as it exists in the US is a scam.  It sounds like this government got it at least partially right.  Liability insurance should be exactly the same for all drivers, should be handled by the government, and should be automatically included with your car registration.  Essentially, as long as you're a licensed driver in a registered car, you should automatically be covered with zero discrimination.

Collision insurance, the part that covers damage to your car when it's your fault, should be entirely optional, handled privately, and while rates should absolutely be carefully regulated, they should primarily be set by the insurers.

Assholeface should feel embarrassed and unsettled.  He should also feel like a complete douchebag, a wanker, and a shiatty driver. Dignity is the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect.  He has no dignity here he farked up and crashed his damn car, he is 100% responsible  but sees it as an opportunity to extract more undeserved wealth.  He is a shiatbag..

Yup. There is that. There is also the psychology. People that get rear-ended by a Taurus carrying a cashier and a mechanic are almost certainly less likely to push the matter than they are if they get hit by a neurosurgeon driving a ferrari. Pretty much everyone wants something from that guy and no one gives him the benefit of the doubt.
