And once again, we're losing to all those advanced Asian countries.

Anything sitting empty more than six hours in Detroit has already been stripped of any copper plumbing. That's why remodeling is done in PEX.

Yes, but before you recycle, be sure the first user is finished cycling.

Isn't this just called looting?

"Recycling" is why it's so hard to find pre-gunpowder battlefields. All the armor and projectiles would be recovered, even if the bodies were just left to fertilize the land.

"Recycling" is why there are so few ancient bronze statues. It's why the ancient wonders didn't leave any remnants except the rough part of the pyramids.

"Recycling" is why so many fine looking houses in St. Louis are just doll houses.

Harry King of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series would be RIGHT at home in this setting.

wxboy: Yes, but before you recycle, be sure the first user is finished cycling.

I fear that the unintended consequence, here, will be the practice of killing the first user to make doubly-sure that he's finished cycling.

It sounds great but the you spend 90 percent of your time just looting and building settlements, and before you know it you levelled up ten times, but your gear hasn't so the new spawns have you hopelessly outclassed on survival mode.

You gear up by doing Mike Illich runs.  But if he spawns with chain lightning, watch out!

$20+ dollars if you find it in shrink wrap, otherwise not worth recycling.

99% of Farkers have never been to Detroit, but that doesn't stop then from being "experts" about it.  Kind of like anti-vaxxers and medical school.

The closest I've been to Detroit proper is Novi...we were told NOT to go into Detroit "without a guide".
I'm from a small sized city (200k), but unless I had someone from the area, I'd probably stay away.
I'd end up like Clark W. Grizwald in "Vacation" in east St. Louis  LOL.

When?

I work in Detroit. Thousands there, every day... downtown is awesome these days, midtown getting better. There is still a ring outside of that that is still dealing with abject poverty and all the things that go with that (crime, gang culture. etc...).

10 years ago this wasn't true. Today, very different.
