Tips to winning an NCAA tournament office pool:

1) First round, pick all the favorites based on seeding number. For example, 1 over 16, 2 over 15, all the way to 8 over 9. No exceptions. There's a reason those teams are higher seeds. The tournament selection committee never messes up.
2) Second round, pick all the favorites based on seeding number.
3) Third round and beyond...just look at seeding number. Hopefully you see where this is going. It's not about matchups, it's about seeding numbers.
4) Exception to rules 1-3: If you live in an area supporting a particular basketball school, make sure to pick that school. For example, if you live in Ann Arbor pick Michigan. You're totally going to win your pool.
5) Make sure to name your pool appropriate, like MyBossIsADipsh*t. (I'm kidding, this is really dumb, * is an escape character and will probably invalidate your entry.)
6) Be sure to sign up for all promotional products being sold that offer you a chance to win things like a nail file or hair softener.
7) When talking about your bracket, if you're not familiar with basketball concepts, just start throwing out stuff like RPI, BPI, Kenpom. Don't forget to talk about a team's record the last 12 games. That will throw people off the trail of picking only the top seeds in each round.
8) To add to throwing people off the trail of picking only the top picks, say things like "Trae Young could really take Oklahoma all the way" and "That Dayton guy from Arizona is really good." Snicker knowingly when they leave the water cooler area.
9) When the games start everyone can see each other's bracket, use it as a way to hit on the ladies. Ladies will love the fact that OMG you totally picked all of the same teams. They'll say stuff like "I don't know basketball" and that's when you can start talking about how good Trae Young is.
10) When your bracket totally fails, weep hysterically and hope one of the ladies will feel sorry for you and sleep with you.

Look, in the interest of full disclosure, I went to the University of Kentucky. I was a student there in 1996, when the two best teams in the nation were Calipari's UMass and Pitino's Wildcats.

UK doesn't win this thing. They're lucky to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, and it wouldn't shock me if they were a 5-12 upset. The way I see it, the whole thing comes down to Xavier and Purdue. Gimme the boys from Cincinnati.

I was a 'student' there in 97-98. In high school just up the road in Georgetown in 1996.
Those were fun years.

This year's UK team reminds me of the 94-95 Kentucky teams. Didn't dominate the SEC, but hoisted the banner in early March. Everyone got hyped because of "remember that Final Four run a few years ago" (93).
They're just not that good, but neither is the overhyped, untested Arizona team.
UVA is good though, and freshmen struggle with defensive concepts they haven't seen.

However either Zona or UK is a tough match for UVA. At some point you just have to score with a team and can't hold them to 60. Either team could jump out to a 12-15 point lead, and then UVA not be able to catch up in a 65-60 loss.

I got the Horned Frogs winning it all in my mascot challenge bracket.

Until the Fightin' Blue Hens or Banana Slugs make the field there is little competition for TCU.

/Stanford really sucks in this format
