I'm looking forward to this.

Needs more Rosario Dawson though.  Everything can be improved upon with the addition of liberal amounts of Rosario Dawson.

Depends on your taste in long form narrative tv. It's a lot of slow burn, but very well done and a lot darker than the MCU movies.

I barely got through season 1. It wasn't as bad as Iron Fist, but it didn't really hold my attention.

More like teaser trailer. Kind of hard to gauge what kind of story arc they are going with from that video. But, Luke Cage has been decent so far, so it will probably be good again. Maybe not Iron Fist good, but if it can at least be Punisher good we will be looking set.

Not really, no.

I liked "Jessica Jones", for the most part. Though, like all of the Marvel shows, it was about 4 episodes too long.

The other shows....I don't know. They ALL move too slowly, and have too many useless episodes.

If you want to try them, watch the first season of "Daredevil", and the first season of "Jessica Jones". The rest  of the show are pretty bad, honestly. And since they all have nearly *exactly* the same style/tone, you'll get the full effect just from those 2 shows.

They need to figure out away for them to be actual superheroes though, or up their script game a whole bunch. If you're going to de-power everyone so radically you had better have a good story.

Meh. I really enjoyed the first wave of seasons, but DD season 2,  Iron Fist, Defenders, and Punisher were really lackluster. Punisher being the only partially redeemable one of the bunch. It's like they're deliberately trying to push their TV MCU off a cliff.

Jesus, we started Jessica Jones and got derailed, never picked it back up, and they were just introducing Luke Cage, but JJ is only on Season 2, IIRC, and Luke Cage is just barely releasing a trailer for Season 2. How long of a break did these farking shows take? Or has it just been far less time since we last watched an episode than I think? I swear that it's been at least 2, maybe 2 1/2 years...

I'd say the first half of the first season Luke Cage was really good. Once the narrative swings away from Cottonmouth you can safely turn it off, though.

I just couldn't get into Jessica Jones but I've heard others rave about it. Too drawn out for me.

IMHO, Iron Fist isn't worth your time.

There was 24 months between S1 and S2 of Jessica Jones, and 21 months between S1 and S2 of Luke Cage.  And, of course, both characters were in the Defenders between seasons,

Pretty much this.  I liked Cage, and the soundtrack was freaking phenomenal, but when they switch from Cottonmouth to Diamondback, the show goes downhill.  JJ season 1 was really slow to develop.  I had to force myself to finish it a while back.  Iron Fist was simply not good.  Punisher was great.  DD has been pretty good as well. I'm just hoping they go back to Kingpin for season 3.  I did enjoy the Defenders also.

They all pretty much have the same problem of being too drawn out.  They could cut three to five episodes off each series and have a much tighter show.

That's too bad. I stuck with S1 because I love Kristin Ritter but it was really slow.

I really liked Jessica Jones S1. Luke Cage S1 started great then fell off after what was at first a surprising pivotal event (no spoilers). DD has been solid. They opened a lot of potential storylines for the future. I didn't watch Iron Fist and I probably won't. I'll watch Defenders soon, then Punisher then JJ S2. They're better than most television, if a little slower than you might expect from a Marvel property.

This one is even slower. I still love it though but I can understand why some people might abandon ship. Without getting into spoilers, I could seriously do without a couple of characters especially Building Super McPenis -bro

That's the problem now... Not only do these Netflix-type series push out everything all at once so you binge watch the entire season in a weekend, but then they wait to see if it's going to work before even considering the second season, so you end up sitting around for two years with your thumb up your ass, and forget everything you already saw. At least I was remembering it right... It had seemed like a long time. I was liking it, though, keep meaning to get back into it. Since I only have two seasons(And that's only if I start from the beginning), it shouldn't take too long.

We enjoyed that Marvelous MrsMaisel back in January, and it's the same thing. We really liked it, but they don't even know when the next season will run. Fark that shiat. If they want me to consume their media, they have to put it out in a somewhat timely matter... 2 years is stupid, we aren't those silly Brits with their Sherlock show.

Maybe Black Lightning could make an appearance along with the Principal from Lean on Me, and they could be three bad brothers in Harlem making things right, with an Isaac Hayes/Gil Scott Heron mash up sound track.

I'm liking Black Lightning.  I think it would serve itself better on Netflix.  And his costume is stupid.  Especially when he's standing on top of a building, in the dark, and his bright blue and yellow lightning bolts are illuminated!

I only mention it because it reminds me of Luke Cage, mostly because of all the slow motion jazz montages

Iron Fist sucked.  I put up with the plot holes and stupidity because there was some nice potential with both sides being morally gray and some nice ambiguity being built.  Then next episode was "Oh no.  I am one of the baddies.  I quit."

I thought I was the only one who didn't care for Jessica Jones.  It's a show about a mopey, emo girl whose super powers are that she's stronger than normal and can jump pretty high, and all she does is feel sorry for herself and get drunk.  Not to mention the multiple times she could have taken down the villain but decided not to so she could squeeze out a few more episodes.  I've been pretty dumbfounded by all the love it gets here on Fark.

2018-03-08 07:51:59 PM
Is Punisher worth finishing?  I'm indifferent to the character in other formats (never read the comics) but really liked his appearance in DD season 2.  I've watched about half of the Punisher series and am totally bored by it.  Not much action and the characters are mostly forgetable.  I would agree that all the MCU shows on Netflix are 2-4 eps too long - so is the middle where they stuck the pointless episodes of Punisher?  I skipped Iron Fist entirely and found I had no problem following Defenders.  Anything worthwhile in the back half of Punisher?  Any setups for stories that will appear in the other (better) shows?

IMHO the problem wasn't the character or the writing, it was the actor. Leave everything about Diamondback the same but replace the actor with Wesley Snipes. Suddenly it works.

Samsquantch: Is Punisher worth finishing?

The second half is stronger than the first, but not so much stronger that I'd say to keep going if you were as bored by the first half as you say you were. There are a few really strong episodes (including a non-linear ep that is well done) and a good plot turn or two, but there is also some treading water and a looooooonnnnggg stretch of torture.

As in, actual torture that basically takes up an entire episode.

I liked the series, but if it's boring you, I don't see anything in the second half that would change your mind. And no, no obvious setups for something major in the Netflix 'verse, so you're probably not missing anything important.

I tried getting into Punisher last week and after 4 episodes accepted that I didn't care. DD season 1 was great but the universe has been a steady decline since then. I haven't tried Iron Fist but the character was so annoying in Defenders (abandoned that halfway through too) that I'm not touching it with a ten foot clown pole.

It's just a big glut at this point.

That's what killed it for me.  The MCU movies don't acknoedge the shows on Netflix or on Network.  The TV shows barely, if at all, acknoedge the movies.

If that's how it is, then I choose the movies.

I got about 5 episodes in and stopped watching.  The show was just all rape.  The villain's power was essentially that he raped people.  I couldn't farking stand to watch hour after hour of that.
