At least Disney's exclusive platform will (presumably) have enough content to justify its existence, unlike a certain major TV network trying to make me pay for Star Trek that I can think of.  I'd prefer to have only a few streaming services, but if we have to go that route, the exclusive ones need to make themselves worth my time and money.

I was thinking on my commute into work today that I'm sort of Star Warsed out. I don't really want to see Solo. And I'm in no real hurry to finish watching Rebels.

I liked the Last Jedi, and I feel it kind of wrapped things up enough for me. I'm pretty sure for the next one JJ is just gonna come back with "Wait, Snoke is alive! And and... Rey's parents ARE important! And R2 had a super secret mystery box reason why he was shut down in Force Awakens, but I'll leave that for the next film maker to reveal."

More of the same, and over saturated at this point.

Oh, hell, no. The second they decide to piss away the Old Republic storylines is the second that they decide to revoke BioWare's licensing and shut down SWTOR, because they can't have SWTOR clash with the Disneyfication of the Old Republic...

You know, as someone with two kids 5 or younger, I could actually see a future where I subscribe to a Disney streaming platform. Start 'em out with the Disney classics and Pixar stuff, move into Star Wars and Marvel when they're a bit older. Easier than keeping track of all those DVDs.

It would definitely serve as a good inspiration for a TV or movie series, and the source material (or most of it at any rate) is really solid.  As long as the sweaty nerd brigade (and I include myself in that where KOTOR is concerned) doesn't lose their shait when there are inevitable deviations from the original story, or HK-47 doesn't get enough screen time, it could be really cool.

I also wouldn't mind if EA wanted to stop wasting their exclusive video game rights on forgettable FPS games and give us a decent single-player RPG.

Not even close to over saturated as Marvel movie/TV.

While I detest the balkanization of online streaming services, Disney's is the one exception I would actually pay for. The back catalog is huge and appeals to everyone in my family, from Disney (movies) to Pixar to Marvel to Lucasfilm to Disney Jr (TV). I wouldn't do CBS's just for Star Trek, because the rest of the catalog doesn't have any appeal.

I'm hoping it's not "based" on anything. And since Jon Favrrra writes his own shiat, I doubt it will be.

Fireproof: ThatBillmanGuy: Rey's parents ARE important!

That would be pretty cheap. That'd be like the first scene in Jedi, "Oh Vader was just lying, let's move on".

I like that Jon Favreau is involved, I've like pretty much everything he's done from Swingers  on (I'm lukewarm on The Jungle Book, but that's entirely because the whole film is set in the uncanny valley -- the story and direction were great).

The real question is:  When is the series set?  Prequel trilogy era?  Original trilogy era?  Sequel trilogy era?

Also...will it star Boba Fett?  Because I'd love a series about Boba Fett starring
Temuera Morrison.  Set before A New Hope in Hutt space.  With Dengar as Fett's overweight, aging bounty hunter mentor, and Greedo as a comic relief "villain" who is constantly having his targets snatched out from under him by Fett.

Please Disney?  My inner 11 year old would be so happy.

It's all going to go that route.

Cable subscriptions are falling, and will continue to do so.  So networks will either band together and sell their content to third party providers like Hulu, or they'll cut out the middlemen and just provide it themselves.  I'm presuming that's the way it's going to go.  CBS didn't put Discovery on the streaming service because they thought that it fit well there, and that it would be a good value for customers; they did it as an experiment to see if exclusive original content could be a draw to increasing subscribers.  And it looks like it has been.  I presume over time they'll add more.  As will ABC/Marvel/Disney.  As will all the others.

Second.  Clone Wars is great once you get into it.  It gets stronger as you go along, but the good news is that you can generally skip the worse story arcs.  Basically, any Jar Jar episode.  They had the good sense to dramatically reduce his presence throughout the course of the series.

I'm one of the ones that hated what they did to Luke in The Last Jed (the rest meh to okay.) But if they make this a bit darker than the movies, I'll be throwing my money at them.

///don't make it during an established timeline

I get that, and that's fine.  But these companies are going to have to compete on content, and CBS has nothing to offer at all other than Star Trek.  Only having 1 major draw isn't going to cut it with most consumers.  Disney will have Marvel and Star Wars and presumably most if not all of their existing movie catalog available which is frankly much more interesting for most people (unless you're a massive NCIS fan I suppose).

Yeah, I'd prefer actual originality.  But if they end up going with something derivative, KOTOR (or its broader universe) would beat the hell out of something like a Boba Fett series.

Then piracy will surge again, and the networks and MPAA will blame anything and everything except their own business model and lobby for tougher anti-piracy laws.

Also the guy who made the MCU's first proof-of-concept. Without the box-office success of Iron Man 10 years ago, we don't have Infinity War this April.

He might have hit his limits as an actor (perennial supporting character), but he does seem to know WTF he's doing behind a camera.

// rumor has it that Favreau made up the IM script (from a general story outline) as he went along
// IIRC: between scenes, he and RDJ would disappear into a trailer to improv-sketch the next scene - Fav as Stark, RDJ as whoever else was in the scene

I don't like this route. "Exclusively on Netflix", "Exclusively on Hulu", "Exclusively on Deez Nutz Streaming". Just nickel and diming us to death. I'd really have no use for a Disney streaming service, even less than a CBS service. At least NCIS has Abby.

We already knew about the series a while ago.  It's just Favreau being attached that's news.  I liked that he's involved, but it still doesn't fix the problem of it being exclusive to Disney's streaming service.

At least it can't be worse than Stargate Origins, I guess.

Mine would be about a misfit Jedi who has to teach Summer School at the Jedi Academy. He's all about cracking wise and getting laid.

-OR-

Family Matters style sitcom, but it's with a family of Hutts and the Urkle character is a Gungan.

-OR-

A medical drama with all droid doctors as they figure out how to keep someone alive who has lost the will to live ...

And when a Jedi begins to become one with the Force, there all *YOINK* "Don't you go disappearing on me!"

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot he did Iron Man. Well then SW is in good hands. As for him being a leading man, he was good in Swingers but then Vince Vaughn's career blew up and Jon...blew up.

I hope he strays away from the Jedi/Sith, space battle, muppet stuff and does more stories about the SW universe's underground but I guess  people would get pissy about that.
