Just change the mission statement for every agency to "F*ck poor people".

I can only imagine how farked up that Department is.
It now has a severely mentally ill man in charge.

They should just screw the mission statement changes and get rid of this guy.

In less than 5 years half of all working adults will be independent contractors without job security or benefits.  If the government does nothing, it will have to dramatically increase spending on housing, health care, food, and retirement for Gen X and millenials.  It's what Ed Slott calls the retirement time bomb.
We need single payer health care, independent of employment.  We need boiler plate work contracts that cover the local cost of living including housing, food, and retirement.  We need independent financial institutions that offer individual defined benefit pensions with mandatory employer and employee contributions (on top of social security).   It's not rocket science people.

A memo ... has language that would shorten the statement significantly, [removing] the words "free from discrimination," and insert a focus on ensuring "opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency."

That's right: you don't need to be free from discrimination, you just need to be more boot-strappy.

The move from HUD under the Trump administration to change its mission statement follows the US Citizenship and Immigration Services' update to its mission statement, reported in February, which eliminated the phrase "nation of immigrants."

Slowly
, the water is brought to a boil.
You want Nazis?
This is how you get Nazis.

First, it's a gated, or walled nation.
Then, it's whites only.
Then, it's sell everything you own, you got sick.
Oh, and your son needs to die in a desert.
But we'll call him a hero.
Frankly, I've watched this nation spew bullshiat like a shiat geyser every election cycle all of my long life.
Department of homeshiat security.
Transportation shiatcurity administration.
Patriot shiat act.
The amount of fixing shiat that ain't broke by the shiat wizards in DC is appalling.

It's as if they are metaphysical shiat plumbers sent from above by the lord God almighty, daddy of Jesus, author of the holy babble, just to inspire more shiat wizardry and never ever address the stinking pile if shiat that is the actual problem.

Faaak.
Cancel the war and pump that money into free health care, mental and dental included, and send everyone to college. You could buy off your enemies with the change.

Nope. Gotta shiat fix. Only gonna cost a few billion.... Till it goes over bid....

You nailed it. But also, let us not forget that most of the real fixes we need require the two things Americans just will not do. And until we realize that we are going to have to sacrifice and put forth some real effort into the change, that change is never going to happen. Because why should I have to suffer anything to fix my country?

/as to those who do not think it needs fixing... please share whatever it is that you are smoking... I really want to get that detached from reality... I mean I really do...

Outraged at headline.  Then read the article.  Misleading headline as usual.

"Any mission statement for this department will embody the principle of fairness as a central element of everything we do. HUD has been, is now, and always will be committed to ensuring inclusive housing, free from discrimination for all Americans."

If you have ever hung around doctors you find a consistency; there are the true altruists, primary practitioners (family practice, pediatrics, general medicine).  These folks usually have wide world views, a lot of compassion and are burned out like Chicago in 1871.  These folks should be in positions of authority but they are too busy keeping the 300 lb diabetics from visiting the ER every time their toes go numb.

The lifestyle folks are the dermatologists, sports medicine, and specialties that have 9-5 hours and little call.  These are smart folks who made it into med school but realized people are a pain in the butt and big paychecks are nice.  No problem, but that's all they really are.

Then there are the ultra specialists, namely very specialized surgeons and medicos.  These folks have something off.  You can tell that they are dissecting your brain or fusing your spinal column as you speak with them.  They are usually savants that are freaks at one aspect of a detailed sub-specialty and do not relate to the world outside of that aspect.  Most have superiority (god) complexes and see fellow humans as machines to be fixed or "other".  Unfortunately they also usually believe no one is as smart as they are and all the peons are getting in their way of fixing the world situation with a scalpel and some stem cells.

You can guess where I think Carson falls.

His wife is in on this job too.  I can hear her yelling at him about the furniture:  "You're the top man in this place and you can get a dining room table?  I knew I should have married James.  At least he has an office at Rent-a-Center.  If he wants a couch, he just gets it!  Tells his people to put it on the truck and send it to his apartment.  That's what a man does."

Because, he is a talented brain surgeon doesn't mean he is intelligent in other faucets of life. Especially in regards to Housing and issues that entails. Originally he didn't even want the position. The administration just chose  him because, he has a conservative bent and he grew in said program. I am actually surprised that he wasn't being pushed for the Surgeon General when the Cabinet  was being formed for this administration. Would make more sense via his background and expertise.

They were gonna do that anyway. But if it means he doesn't get to sit on new, overpriced office furniture while he's not doing his job, well, that's gonna have to suffice, I guess.

Right out of college I had a leasing job which included a portion of Section 8 public housing.  There were plenty of people that appreciated the program and made the most of their opportunities, and there were an equal amount that resented the housing, and did everything in their power to destroy it and make everyone living around them miserable.

Vandalism was rampant and then there were things that just didn't make sense:  taking the kitchen sink out of the counter, hooking it up using garden hoses and draining it in a 5 gallon bucket, in the living room.

Why yes, it did ruin the ceiling of the apartment downstairs.

I take care of the places I rent, and even I write off the deposit.  Some landlords just default to giving it back to you.  Some ding you for whatever scratches they found and give you some back.  And some just keep it, assigning to the renter the cost of any remodeling they want to do before leasing again, which can easily exceed the deposit.

I've concluded at least 10 leases in my lifetime, and all of the above has occurred.  I've never sued anyone for a deposit, nor has anyone ever sued me.

DR BENJAMIN CARSON: "If anyone was offended. I apologize to you. What I was basically saying is there is no group. I wasn't equating those things, I don't think they're equal. If you ask me for an apple and I give you an orange you would say, that's not an orange. And I say, that's a banana. And that's not an apple either. Or a peach, that's not an apple, either. It doesn't mean that I'm equating the banana and the orange and the peach."
