Every investigation ought to have a conclusion,

Except Benghazi and Hillary's emails, of course.

could the republicans really be THIS stupid?

what if this whole thing has to do with the 'average' republican simply being unwilling to believe that 'one of their own' could be corrupt?  maybe these idiots really DO take everything fox news says at face value.  maybe they really are believing their own press releases.

if that's actually the case, if the GOP really has been sticking their fingers in their ears and ignoring all of this evidence because they honestly DO believe its made up bullshiat from the Democrats......then we're going to have a very, very long summer indeed.

It became obvious about 10-15 years ago that the Republicans had made the classic and ultimately invariably fatal mistake: Falling for their own marketing bullschytt. The rich people's party telling their base lies is one thing, provided the liars realize it's an act. They forgot it's an act, and now the inmates have staged a takeover.

The wonderful property of objective reality is, it doesn't care whether you acknowledge it or not... they're going to be very rudely bulldozed this spring/summer and I'm going to take a sip of nice single malt whiskey and toast every indictment.

That's an excellent point, one of the things I always found strange about 1984 is that a lot of people harp on the memory hole and the selective editing of public record, but there has to be an actual and official record that isn't edited by the party in order to make effective policy decisions regardless of what they tell the proles. The Party has to actually implement things in order to stay in power, keep the workers working and the industries with resources, so there has to be real statistics and census somewhere planned.

What we're seeing is if 1984 didn't have that independent record for rational planning; everyone believes the lies everyone tells each other, and in treating those lies as truth develop ongoing policy that is divorced from objective reality.

They could be, but they're not. They're just this cynical. They have no interest in anything that could incriminate their guy, and they're willing to lie until such things go away.

Did anyone, anywhere, at any time believe that this was a sincere effort?

I'm going to bet their report will find no evidence of wrongdoing, except in the case of Her E-Mails(tm), and Obama, and The Deep State(tm).

I'd guess Mueller is already all over that, but he has to keep that especially close to the vest.  One of the last cards he plays.

Weaver95: could the republicans really be THIS stupid?

"fark You, Got Mine" and a dependence on the average R voter being dumb or deluded enough to believe they'll benefit from policies designed to keep [them and] their neighbors down has been enough to keep the party afloat for decades.  OF COURSE the current party is pushing that shiat as hard as they can, seems like they've forgotten how to do any-farking-thing else.

Looks like it's finally starting to backfire.  We can only hope it does so spectacularly before everything else goes down in flames.

[needs moar valium, or something.]

If you make ice cubes from the tears, you can get multiple glasses from a smaller amount.
Conservative tears are a fungible resource.

That's like the Vogon poetry of political cartoons.

"... when [Garrison's] own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save life and civilization, leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain."

That's sort of what happened to the Soviet Union.  Enough people know the real numbers that the statements from the Party were just not believable.  Something about not being able to fool all the people all the time.

The entire purpose for Nunes' sideshow is to cover his ass and (okay, two things) to have a show of the release of this "report" for the midterms.

"Lookie here, we have concluded our investigation into our own behavior and found ourselves innocent! And in conclusion, Benghazi, emails. Thank you very much and please vote Nazi Party, excuse me Republican."

Germaine Greer once said this of Ernest Hemingway...

"When his cock wouldn't stand up he blew his head off. He sold himself a line of bullshiat and he bought it."

This is where the GOP is right now. Nobody can stand the tide of history. Nobody. The only question is how they choose to self-destruct in the face of objective reality as a result.
