Agree with the sentiment there - I am half German and can't understand phobias about the human body - you know, the thing WE ALL HAVE and is pretty much generally THE SAME FOR EVERYONE.

Only if you're wearing a black derby hat.

I spent close to 7 years stationed in Germany. Public nudity doesn't happen as often as you think over there, and usually it's the ones that you don't want to get naked. That said, it's not a big deal when it does happen over there. Changing areas at public pools are walled off a little, but it's not like there's a little maze of walls set up so that no one can see inside the changing area if they're walking near the entrance/exit. It's not unusual for folks to get naked in the sauna and not have a towel around them, but those aren't always coed.

/and no, the women don't keep their legs hairy.

I once was on the North Sea with my host family in the late Nineties. I was chatting with their daughter and walking back to the car when two girls my age just undressed to put on their bathing suits. And they were pretty hot. It short circuited my brain and I don't think it's ever recovered.

Maybe not where you were, but in the Bad Kreuznach area the less Americanized women did.  They also tended to avoid daily showers.  Riding the bus was a form of gas mask training without the gas mask.

I was actually in BK at Rose Barracks from 97-99. The women that were my age (early 20s) at the time kept their legs shaved, although I did know one or two that had an odor issue from not using deodorant and not showering daily.

Stationed in Germany during the 80's and went to the beach with some buddies who were surprised by the hairy armpits.

CSB: My most awkward experience with German views on nudity was at a spa. My friends and I had heard that it was a fun place to visit so went there. The place was coed so we put on our swim trunks and hopped in the hot tub. As we're soaking a 4 year old boy walked by stark naked. We thought, OK little kid doesn't know better. Then his mom walked by, also dishabille. We looked around and saw that most of the patrons were in similar states. That's when we realized we were overdressed. We stripped and went back into the spa. I went into the sauna and was enjoying the heat when an absolutely stunning woman walked in and sat across from me, cross legged. I mean I had a perfect view. I put my towel over my lap and tried to think of dead puppies and a naked Margaret Thatcher as this gorgeous woman tried talking to me. After a few moments I said goodbye (I didn't ask for her number, she had on a wedding ring) and took a very cold shower.

Dingleberry Dickwad"usually it's the ones that you don't want to get naked."

It's legal in Ontario to be topless and the half dozen times I've noticed, I have to agree with you.

I'm not a world traveller by any stretch but non CSB happened at a resort outside Punta Cana.  We were travelling during German season for my niece's destination wedding.  A lot of our family there and my wife and I had our 1 year old with us.  We were splashing in the shallow water of the family pool when the water was frantically disturbed.  What followed...it is linked in my mind as when Godzilla breached the harbour of Tokyo prior to a rampage.
A large pale mass of flesh emerged from the pool 10' or so from us.  Face pinched in the glare of the sun, hair plastered flat to her head and face, broad shoulders reflecting and somehow magnifying the brightness of the Dominican sun.  Bust measurement similar to my height with letters closer to the mid alphabet apparently only clad in the barest of purple bikini bottoms almost obscured by the four rolls of doughy flesh.
Each lumbering stride caused a wave like ripple of the pool surface with mirrored motion across her surface.  Stride and roll, stride and roll she approached the shallow end.
As she drew closer one arm crossed her body to her waist, lifted a roll and produced the strap of the one piece suit she wore as she covered herself from the sun's harmful rays.

I had never seen this storage of a bathing suit before and my 19 year old nephew exclaimed, "there are bad boobs out there" in whispered awe.

I went there a couple times while I was in the Navy, and yeah that's usually true. But on one memorable occasion myself and a few shipmates were eating lunch in an open air place right on the beach. Three 'girl next door hot' college age young women come by and set up their blankets in an open area that happened to be near where we were seated. Then they proceeded to get completely naked and start tanning. I remember two things about it:

1) That lunch took a VERY long time to eat.
2) I was VERY pissed that I had left my camera back on the ship.

I've seen topless women in Kelowna and they were the ones you really want to see topless.  Wonderful.

I've been in Germany since 1990. Back in the day, when we lived in Lübeck, we'd go to the beaches on the Baltic coast with my wife's cousin, his wife, her sisters, and their friends. We were all in our early 20s.

This was the early 90s, and topless was the norm those days, so I was interested to see what kind of swimming apparel they would have. I was a bit let down when the girls took off their street clothes to reveal sleek one-pieces, but then, after we all went swimming, the girls all peeled the straps off their shoulders and rolled the swimsuits down to their hips.

Needless to say, I spent the entire afternoon lying on my stomach.

Saunas here are also fun - always nude and mostly mixed.

I was in Munich in 2016 and on my way to the beer garden in the English Garden, I get passed by a guy in a full suit with a briefcase. As I catch up, he walks into the nudity allowed section, strips down and put all his clothes into the suitcase.

Overall that area was pretty well populated by the river

Wasn't Rheingrafenstein that restaurant on Kuhberg hill? When I was there the only thing on Kuhberg was the MWR area that had a pavilion you could rent out for events and they had the offices where you could book stuff like rock climbing trips or parachute jumping trips with local companies that did them. I don't remember the name of it, but if the Haus Sexy was the local red light bar/haus, it wasn't too far off base and it wasn't too far from Der Scharfrichter, which was the local bar a lot of us went to.

/1sg liked to do runs and ruck marches up Kuhberg hill and the vineyards around it.

Ahh ok. I don't know what that stuff is now. Pretty much all the bases and stuff in BK have closed. Same thing for the second place I was stationed in Germany, Kitzingen. We've signed those places back over to the Germans. I do kinda wonder how those towns are doing these days, I'm betting the local economy was bolstered quite a bit by the soldiers.

i lived in Heidelberg in the mid 80's.  I would take my dog down to the park at lunchtime (if I was off) down by the river.  All the cute office girls would picnic lunch down there and would take their tops off and neatly fold them while they got some sun.  I enjoyed that.
