Still rubbing the sand out of my eyes.

The first time I read that, I thought it said "and riding the corpse". I pictured an insane taxidermy job where man converted landlord to go-cart and drove off into the sunset.

Dark and lonely on the summer night.
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking - Do he bite?
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Slip in his window,
Break his neck!
Then his house
I start to wreck!
Got no reason --
What the heck!
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
C-I-L-L ...
My land - lord ...
Def!

Should have the money from his tax cuts to cover this.

You know, when ever there's more wealth, you can expect prices to go up

Should he have asked for consent to drive the car before he shot him in the head?

For the first time in 8 years my landlord raised my rent, by $11. My neighbour and I were joking about how bothered we were about the miniscule increase.

$30 though.... sure, that calls for murder.

Landlord should have hired someone to handle the collection of that extra $30...

Too bad it happenned in Cudahy. After seeing that pick i had to further investigate which 'south milwaukee suburb' it happend in. Because if it happened in Greendale, that pic would be so much funnier

/Born and raised. We have a 'ski hill', a high school ski team, and every class had some sort of whitebread asshole like Stalin.

Well I hope the landlord learned something from this experience.

CSB.. I recently bought a house so I wouldn't have to pay rent anymore.  My inexperienced landlord asked me if I thought the rent was fair.

I told her, personally, I thought it was a huge rip off and that it was a terrible value and was a huge reason why we were moving out. (rent was about $500 more per month then my current housing costs, But I had a large down payment once my previous house sold).  I also mentioned that it seemed  competitive with prices in the area, and was the cheapest I could find that was large enough for my family when I needed a place.

She rose the rent by $90/month for the people I sub-leased to.

As someone whose rent was just increased $200/mo, I am most certainly getting ideas here.

It's a real shame people don't negotiate the rent more aggressively.  Pretty much pick a place they can afford for what they want, then get stuck when the increases come around.  Our current system is just landlords picking whatever prices they want to charge, sometimes basing it on what other landlords are charging and considering that as fair value.  People negotiate purchase prices of houses, maybe people need to negotiate rent before they move in.

Hilarious that this is posted today.  Just this morning emailed my management company we should raise the rent on a house I own.  4% after no increase last year.  That's reasonable, right?  Or at least not worth killing me over.  Right?  Right?!?

Seriously though, that's just keeping up with inflation.  If it was worth it 2 years ago at that rent, it's worth 4% more today.

Csb: After my rent went up $200 a month, I thought about leaving and found that it matched prices in my area and was actually a bit cheaper. /csb

Would have loved to negotiate but they would have told me 'Pay us or find a new apartment'. As more property management companies pop up and monopolize an area it becomes real easy for them to collude to raise prices.

Is there a standard where you live? Our local landlord tenant board has guidelines it must follow in regards to rent increases. Double check that you're not bound by similar rules where you live.

Oh I know landlords play those games, and it's because too many people are caught in situations where they can't negotiate for long.  Only thing I can think of is try to work the deal a couple months before current lease is up.  Not just one landlord, but get at least 3 going on the hook, and see who comes down.  Granted it won't work if they're having no trouble filling the apartments with idiots who are willing to pay the asking price.
