Bad news:  Their pitchers will allow 6+ runs per game.

Yeah, right. In 2017, everyone said the Dodgers were shoo-ins to win the World Series. Spoiler alert: they did not.  And in 2016, everyone said the Dodgers were shoo-ins to win the World Series. But guess what?  They did not.  And in 2015, everyone said the Dodgers were shoo-ins to win the World Series, but . . . well, you get the picture.

In fact, here is a partial list of teams who have won the World Series since the perennial "can't miss" Dodgers last won a World Series:

The San Francisco Giants (3 times)
The Boston Red Sox (3 times; most recent previous World Series victory: 1918)
The San Francisco Giants (3 times)
The Chicago Cubs (Most recent previous World Series victory: 1908)
The San Francisco Giants (3 times)
The Chicago White Sox (Most recent previous World Series victory: 1917)
The San Francisco Giants (3 times, and in only 5 years!)
The San Francisco Giants (I may have already mentioned this, but it bears repeating)
The Atlanta Braves (Most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
The Toronto Blue Jays (2 times; most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
The Florida Marlins (Most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
The San Francisco Giants (not once, not twice, but 3 times!)
The Arizona Diamondbacks (Most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
The Anaheim Angels (Most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
The Dodgers' hated archrivals, aka, the San Francisco Giants--three times, actually, in just 5 years
The Houston Astros (Most recent previous World Series victory: Never)
And, of course, the San Francisco Giants (3 times over a mere 5 years)

"Wow," you might say to yourself, "for a team that in most years has been touted as being one of the World Series favorites, it sure seems like it's been a long time since the Dodgers have actually won a World Series!" And you would be correct. It has been a very, very long time. In fact, for you kids who weren't even alive the last time the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club won a World Series, let me show you what a baseball-themed video game looked back then--this is an actual image from a baseball video game released that very same year:

In other words, the Dodgers have not won a championship in the game of baseball in quite a number of years. In fact, this will be the 30th season in a row in which the Dodgers will have failed to win such a championship.  Unlike many other baseball clubs. Such as, for example, the San Francisco Giants, who won such a championship in 2010, 2012, and 2014--three times in a mere five years! Hooray for the baseball club from San Francisco!

Well, the Giants look to have a solid field/offense....

And next to nobody in pitching.

Same as it ever was....

I'm happy we got Longoria and kept a solid core in the field, but we need to have more to the pitching rotation than 'MadBum and 5 other guys'. Okay, more than 'MadBum, Cueto, and 4 other guys'.

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned that they've won twice since the Dodgers last won.  But the bigger point is that their first championship was indeed long after the Dodgers' most recent championship.

Orioles pitchers are the best batting practice pitchers in baseball, hands-down. Heck, they should use them for the Home Run Derby during All-Star Week.

All right, so, I gave ya' shiat, but... ya' gotta admit, that was a great game and a great series, right?  Or was it just too painful to be objective about it?  I can only imagine how hard it is for a fan to watch the churn of managers and repeated failures.

That said, as a Giants fan who transplanted to the area... the change in fanbase culture as they found a little success, and embraced / emboldened the "braggadocio" of Harper et al (even in things like radio ads and crowd management/manipulation) was palpable and quite unpleasant.  I went from "we must get the best seats we can find for all three games when they're in town!" the first summer we were there, to "fark _that_ noise.  We'll spend that money to fly back to SF and go to a game or two."  In that respect, I have to say I won't be upset if they keep spending massive amounts of money and choking out early.  But, from fans who predate Harper/Strasburg/et al and the PR team that turned the stadium toxic to visiting fans?  Watching the failures must suuuuuck.

Yes it was a great game and it was a great series. I have been a Nationals fan since they came to DC. I remember the days of Livan Hernandez and Alfonzo Soriano.
I am just a DC sports fan born and raised. The only Washington major professional sports championship that I have experienced was in 92 when the 'Skins won the Superbowl. I was 3.

I have absolutely no ill will, that I wish upon the Giants. That sigh was just the resignation of a long time Washington sports fan, who has seen nothing but failure in his lifetime.

Yup, that sucks.  But your perseverance as a fan marks ya' as one of the legit and good ones.  So there's that.  Not that it's much comfort, I'm sure.  Get rid of the ownership of either the NFL team or the MLB team (dunno nothin' 'bout the NHL team) and your future might brighten up.  Or just change managers again. ; )

Ted Leonsis (Caps & Wiz) and Ted Lerner (Nats) are fine owners in my opinion. They don't micromanage their franchises and they spend money when they need to. Danny boy on the other hand is an expert of turning gold into lead.
