Florida's not locked in there with them. They're locked in there with Florida.

No, subby.  They are not trying to eliminate DST, they are eliminating Standard Time.  But it will need the US Congress to pass a law before our dumb-ass idea can take effect.

Florida Man:  "Yeah.  But what about all them daylight savings we saved?  Where is all those savings going?  To the mouse, I bet.  Or the gummint."

2018-03-07 03:56:13 PM
We've seen what a good job they've done eliminating invasive pythons. I have total confidence in Florida.

You mean I've been cutting off the bottom foot of my blanket and sowing it to the top of the blanket, and I'm not getting more blanket? What the?!

2018-03-07 03:56:54 PM
The USA switch to daylight saving time and never switch back.

2018-03-07 03:57:06 PM
That's going to contribute to global warming

2018-03-07 03:57:25 PM
I never understood the hate some people have for DST? I like having it stay light out longer in the summer.

Yep. As written, you are allowed to opt out of DST. You can't make it permanent, or change when you observe it.

2018-03-07 03:58:05 PM
So all you have to do is pass a law and you get an extra hour of sunshine?

2018-03-07 03:58:40 PM
Well.  My SO has been trying to convince me to move to Florida.

His arguments of beaches, warm weather and beloved friends always lose out to drivers and climate change.

This could actually shift things in his favor.

There's gotta be some guy in Redmond hitting the valium each time one of these bills are introduced.

2018-03-07 03:58:58 PM
Actually just eliminating daylight. It's a perfect fit for the "Sunshine State".

It's also nice to have that same extra light year round.

Sort of makes sense, not a lot of mountains for the sun to set at 3pm behind.

2018-03-07 04:02:55 PM
Move it half an hour once and never change it again.

Used to live in central Illinois and go to the Air Guard in Terra Haute.  For one part of the year, Terra Haute was an hour earlier so I was up at 4 to drive to the base.  Of course, I picked up the hour when I left in the evening.

So they were Eastern with no Daylight Savings.  Their clocks never changed.  It was Illinois' fault because they doing the time warp twice a year.

Sorry TH.  I always blamed you.

It's an election year so this is being used to generate goodwill among the hoi polloi. It works!

MA wants to move to the Atlantic Time Zone.  ME and other states would probably follow.

Meh.  It's not like Florida is a hub of economic activity besides slinging cocktails at tourists and retirees.  The money managers in Miami will just have to get up an hour earlier for the NYSE.

It's a trick question.  The legislature is involved so no actual work has been done.

Love the precedent.  Wish they'd do that here in Chicago.  Being on the east edge of Central means in December (when we're on Standard) the sun sets at like 4:30, it's pitch dark before 5:00.  I feel like I'm living in Alaska.

Just get rid of all times zones, they're an abstract concept to begin with... then again, so is time.

Yeah...instead of Florida switching to DST all year (the headline is wrong), I'd rather we went standard year around. We have enough sunlight as it is, and ITS farkING HOT HERE!

If you're tired of DST, you're tired of life.
