That is why you need to have corrective surgery.

On Monday I played Elite Dangerous in VR for hours using a Vive, which I have read is even heavier than the Rift. I felt fine, apart from having an odd indentation in my face that has still not quite gone away.

Or if they are big enough they can spin off the bad sector.  With the current system we get the Oroville dam here in CA busting up, and nobody to hold accountable at all, except taxpayers.  And I didn't have anything to do with it.  I would have had more safety checks etc.... So how about we compromise and have the current government but with some small changes.  Like being able to hold individuals in the government (and beurocracy) accountable.  Currently we can't even fire people who watch porn for an AVERAGE of 6 hours a day at the EPA (maybe actually now we can, since it may have made it into the employee handbook.)

Keep in mind that corrective surgery is not an option for everyone.  (Admittedly if you can afford an Oculus Rift, LASIK is an option--but LASIK mostly works on nearsightedness, not so much for things like astigmatism or strabismus.  Also not much of an option if you have vision issues that are not stable, also not an option if you have sufficiently (physically) sensitive eyes that even contacts are problematic.)

I'm one of those people whom LASIK is not an option for.  (Had strabismus as a young kid that SHOULD have had corrective surgery...at the age of two...but my fundy NARasite smother relied on Prosperity Gospel rather than medical advise.  As a result, I have one eye that is extremely nearsighted with mild astigmatism (to the point it's correctable only to 20/35, which JUST brings me into binocular vision and really is borderline for driving at ALL in my state--and that's with a very good opthamologist and optimetrist, historically uncorrected it's been more like 20/100 and uncorrectable below 20/45), the other is farsighted (distance vision is like 20/15 but up close stuff and tiny stuff is problematic), I'm in the Mid Life Area Where Bifocals Eventually Start Getting Discussed, and pretty much my opthamologist mostly concentrates at this point on getting my eyes corrected enough that I can actually see in 3D WITHOUT the use of a VR device (and really doesn't worry about the mild prisms that would be needed to fully correct the astigmatism, the bad eye is sufficiently farked up that it doesn't matter if there's prisms or not).

Also, I'm so bad with things touching my eyes (yes, seriously) that I can't even give Visine drops to myself, I can't do the conventional glaucoma tests (the puff of air is enough to set me off and always makes it read extremely high), and they damn near have to have someone pry my eyelids open to get drops in to numb my eyes to actually do the "barely touch the eye" glaucoma testing.  (I don't deal well with things touching my eyes.  AT ALL.  Pretty much the first time the opthamologist saw this I was pretty much instantly ruled out as a candidate for both LASIK and contacts. :D  Fortunately, I'm supposedly not the worst they've seen, but still, it's enough that I'd have to be pretty much on a continuous drip of Versed or propofol for about two weeks if I ever got LASIK. :D)

Great Porn Dragon: Keep in mind that corrective surgery is not an option for everyone.

For many people the astigmatism is compounded by the fact that the optometrist, in a bid to save the parents money, didn't really correct the astigmatism in the prescription glasses correctly. What they did was make it a little thicker in one portion to distort it enough to correct it, but this needs to go up every new set of glasses because your eye (and brain) get used to slacking off. If you have a "mild to moderate" astigmatism, you can still get corrective surgery done, just the first few weeks you'll have to concentrate to not have double vision while your eye and brain get used to having to work again.

Had LASIK done a decade ago, and that's (very roughly, it has been over a decade) what the ophthalmologist told me. First couple of weeks were a bit of a pain, with the first 24 hours of recovered vision the worst because I got tired just looking around at the clear view my newly modified eyes gave me. After a month, it stopped being a problem, and I'm still 20/20.

I have lost track of how many times I have wanted to viciously beat a developer who said "I don't know why you are getting that error, it worked on my machine." I'm the senior software support engineer for a software company in the print mail industry. That's a fancy way of saying I answer top tier support tickets and also install and update the software the company I work for produces. When a developer says "worked on my box" in general it means my department and I are about to face a world of client complaints because the update they thought they were getting this week is delayed yet again to fix another retarded issue like a dev using hard-coded server connection values in their program that they conveniently left set up to connect to their test environment when they published.

I get to deal with doctors quite a bit - if you think they're annoying at work, you should try explaining how to use computers and audio-visual equipment to a neurologist or a thoracic surgeon.

"Here, push this button to advance your slides." (hands over remote, pointing at the big green button)

(pushes a completely different button) "It didn't work. This thing's broken." (hands remote control back to me)
