At this point it's just a couple of things

• win an award for something I wrote where I can publically thank my wife for putting up with all my shiat
• masturbate somewhere in the Eiffel Tower and pretend like I'm shooting the positive energy slime inside the Statue of Liberty ala Ghostbusters II
• die quietly in the middle of a nap (I guess it would technically be the end of my nap) on a beach vacation

Maybe I should catch cancer.

All but two things on my list have happened, which is kind of scary. If I do them, it's like an open door for the Grim Reaper.

Item 999/1000: Take the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle and rent a car for a return trip, stop at a few important parks and historic sites along the way.

Item 1000/1000: Go to Finland, meet some Laplanders, do a sauna & roll in the snow nekkid.

#998 was have a casual chat with John Cusack and somehow touch his body. That did happen last summer (just a handshake but close enough).

My big bucket list item is to earn/save enough to be able to retire before i'm 75.

It's mostly just meeting B list celebrities.  Which is cool, if you've got a crush on a B list celebrity.  hell, a dinner with Nigella Lawson or Bjork would make cancer almost worth it, for me.

I want to visit Ireland. I have family roots there.

I might be too old to "backpack around Europe" too, but I'd like to visit France, see Paris, go to the Alsace region, then hop over to Germany, then down to Austria and Hungry in search of the town one of my ancestors lived in before coming to America, then do the same thing in Romania.

I want to visit Rome, then travel north to pick olives on my uncle's small place in Ostra Vetere.

I have too much tying me down now though.  Maybe in a few years when the kids are out and their college/trade school/etc is paid for.

I went on a boat ride out of Reykjavik to see the northern lights. We didn't see shiat as it was cloudy. The good thing is that they let you ride for free again if you don't see any on the first go around. Your idea of doing the camping thing is a way better idea.

flew into galway, headed south and spent the next 10days driving the coast visiting both of my parent's ancestral towns along they way.  once we got to dublin, headed back west back to galway.  only had the first and last night planned, the rest was stopping at the next cool place we found.  the irish were fantastic, the germans were a blast to pub with and the english are dicks and treat the irish like sh*t.  ymmv.
