Dumbass.

idiot.

video games make people less prone to violence because it gives them an outlet for frustration and anger. Doesn't matter if you're killing zombies, nazis, nazi zombies, commie-nazis, or a nuclear Gandhi; this shiat works and is probably the best contributing factor to the sharp decline in youth violence starting in the 90s (when videogames went super mass market thanks to Nintendo and Sega)

we should be thanking these developers, not punishing them

Except for all the elements they add to get people addicted to gaming in the same ways casinos get you addicted to gambling.

And microtransactions.

And EA, Activision, and Ubisoft get no thanks, not now, not ever.

so we treat addiction like the medical condition that it is. Maybe video game addiction will finally get people to finally come around to the reality that punishing someone for having an addiction, regardless of whether its drugs, gambling, video games, or books, is counterproductive.

also, you listed publishers (the scourge of gamers and developers) which should be beaten with a rusty shovel twice nightly for how much they f*cked over the industry.

/okay, ubisoft is a pseudo developer.

In 2018 America finally dealt with its massive gun violence problem and they banned video games and ever since then there have been no video games.

We've got the greed of the 80's, the culture wars of the 90's, the real wars of the 2000's, and the technology of the 2010's.

People inherently have sexual thoughts and thus there is Playboy.

People inherently have violent thoughts and thus there are violent video games.

Not the other way around.

That's a great place to start. Or take them to a bunch of different churches / religions. Expose the madness.

What is shameful is that people who were kids in the 1980s playing video games are going to buy into this now that they are parents and grandparents in 2018.

2018-03-07 11:40:42 AM
There's countries that let children attend bullfighting and get desensitized to bloody live violence for entertainment and they still don't have any mass shootings because no one is handing out guns like candy.

2018-03-07 11:40:45 AM
Part of video games is that you keep dying from gun violence. I don't think the "games cause violence" people have ever been sniped in a video game and experienced how much it sucks. Builds that bit of empathy that keeps you from burning your hand or shooting your fellow man.

2018-03-07 11:40:47 AM
And who controls access to those video games that aren't supposed to be sold to children ?

thats right, the same parents who buy their kids guns.

the most recent mass shooting by children all have 1 thing in common. Stupid ass parents / guardians who thought having guns around emotionally trouble kids was a great idea.

We need guns. Period. Imagine coming home and finding a man sitting in your house, watching TV and drinking your beer. He says this is his home now and he has taken over your home and your bank accounts and gets all the attention of your wife or girlfriend. If you had a gun, you could have shot that farkhole dead as soon as he entered your home.

This is also why we need to keep abortion legal.

Is there really evidence for video games being an outlet for frustration and anger?  That's certainly not why I play games...

Genuinely curious because I can't find any evidence for that in my cursory search.

We've been down this road before:

comic books
violent movies
music
and now video games

We should go after nursery rhymes next.  Introducing what are really violent concepts, imagery and subjects, at such a young impressionable age... who will think of the children?

2018-03-07 11:43:10 AM
As Feinblatt noted, the link between video games and gun violence has little empirical basis, as studies have repeatedly shown

Yes, but this contradicts what I feel to be true.

Fixed.

Also, ban the boob armor.  I'm inherently rapey and can't handle myself.

When I was in high school, I thought this bullshiat of blaming video games for societal problems would stop because the people raising children would've grown up playing video games. I didn't factor in that our dumbass boomer parents would still be around as grandparents and also really concerned about thei grandson being into Dungeons and Dragons.

Ban violent video games and people will start playing Candy Crush again, and you know what happens then, don't you? The anti-sugar lobby will get to Trump and blame CC for obesity, so then people will have to play games involving fruit for health reasons.

It's a slippery slope to this...

He's right. I watched some guy who I guess is a ninja or something shoot and kill hundreds of people yesterday alone. He shot them with guns and rockets and grenades and dropped some sort of fort house looking thing on a guy, crushing him. Then he laughed and danced whilst gazing out over all the carnage he had wrought.

Why is this not in the news? Hundreds dead seems like it would be right up CNNs alley...
