No!  They're trying to lure unsuspecting people into Ohio!  Don't fall for the trap!

Yeesh, considering average minibar price gouging, I'd hate to see how those things will be metered.

Bingo.

Side note:

IIRC, there are a few places in the U.S. that have beer bath spas as well.  But you are limited on how much you can drink.  I've been to this beer spa in Prague a few times, and it's all you can drink for an hour:

I had tap beer at my house for a while (Guinness).  Overall, I would rate it as a bad idea.  Too easy to top off, or have one more half.

One tap? What the hell good is that?

Ugh, imagine the bill for cleaning and sanitizing all of the lines.  Or worse, imagine the shiats you'll get if they don't.

Yeah but, it's in Ohio. Pass.

the phrase "all you can drink for an hour" sounds super duper unhealthy.

I'm not seeing that as a negative.

These have been around for a while, minus the crowdfunding buzz.

My thoughts exactly.  Figure a tap with relatively little use, even with a mini keg, we are talking stale, bad beer...and no variety.  Will drink my beer where you are supposed to, in a well kept bar or Tap room.

Hopefully since they're selling their own product at a location they own, they can turn a profit on it without charging minibar prices. Hopefully.

How about a craft brewery with an attached hotel and available "all-you-can drink" passes to the bar? I agree with others that having either an individual kegorator or long-run tap hoses to each room is a bad idea. Drink socially in the public space with like-minded consumers, then stumble back to your room to sleep it off.

Just saw that their brewery opened in "Columbus". It's actually in Canal Winchester which is 15 miles southeast of the city and is in the middle of bumfark nowhere.

JFC what a stupid place to build a brewpub unless it's serving Budweiser.

I hope they extended their checkout hours to 3 pm. This would be kind of cool as a small party room but for the solo business traveler or whatever probably not a good idea.

City Tavern in Culver City CA has selected tables with self serve beer taps.  Several craft beer choices at each table and it's super fun and convenient.  At the end of the evening, however, they check the meter and you pay for what you poured.

Canal is opening a lot of brewery friendly field space. Easy access, far enough out that traffic is not a hassle 22 hours a day, and busses still go to canal.

They are also reopening the rail line there for future high speed downtown connections.

Canal is kinda happening lately.

Wow, this is the first time in a LOOOOONG time that I've wished I could still drink.

That's fine and dandy, but people, on the whole, suck. Not having to listen to some drunk idiot rambling on about his ex-gf sounds great to me.
Besides, there are loads of hotels with bars attached, or in the hotel.

It would stand to reason, but considering the opportunity to reap as much profit as possible ("Dude, we have beer on tap RIGHT HERE IN OUR ROOM!"), I'd be surprised if the owners are able to show any lasting restraint in that area.

Most of their hotels have on-site breweries, multiple pubs and in some cases a movie theater. Watching the most recent Star Wars movie while sipping a beer was quite enjoyable.

What's unique to do there besides go to brew pubs? Looking at experiencecolumbus.com it doesn't seem like a lot. At least nothing that you can't do in pretty much any city.

I love your optimism, but I'm a "I'll believe it when I see it" kinda gal.

There's a reason why Wolf's Bridge moved from Lancaster to downtown Columbus.

Yeah I kind of agree with you on that but then again Lancaster is three times as far from Columbus as Canal is.  so if I had a business in Lancaster that relied on people actually coming to it I'd move it to Columbus to but canal and Columbus or pretty much the same crowd.

We took a driving tour of Oregon a few years ago and quickly learned to look for their hotels wherever we were travelling.  Great food, beer and wonderfully restored great old properties.

I wouldn't recommend visiting here for a vacation, but if you're passing through, there are some interesting things to do. For example, we have one of the best zoos in the country and one of the only heavy metal festivals in the US (Rock on the Range).

Who would really want to drink beer in the shower? Except that you don't have to put your beer down to to pee.

Crowd funding is that when you want to make a product but don't have enough Faith in the product to take out a loan

I have always wanted to see that zoo but yeah, I wouldn't make a trip just for that.

We went to the supposedly awesome and famous San Diego zoo when we were there 5ish years ago and that place was a dump IMO. I would have been pissed if I went all the way there just for that.

My high school reunion (20 year) was held at their hotel in Bothell, WA last year.  The room prices were a little high, but at least we had a group discount....and I'm glad I stayed there, even though I live less than 15 miles away.

The bad news:  When the official party was over, we moved over to one of the bars, and the bartender cut me off after a short while.  (Even when I told him I was staying on-site.)

The good news:  He did me a favor, since I still ended up puking the next day...so it could have been worse.

Dumb.

They need to rename it if they ever want to be able to get people on Corporate trips. I'm pretty damn sure I couldn't expense my "BrewDog" hotel room for $300/night.

Alcaste: the phrase "all you can drink for an hour" sounds super duper unhealthy.

Heh.

Actually, I manage to not over-do it when I'm there.  The tub is so relaxing, you barely want to move, so I end up not drinking a lot....well. "a lot" by my own personal standard.

I wouldn't really consider this as an option if I were staying alone. As you say, drink in the bar. Or if you're determined to drink alone in your room just carry in however much you want/intend to drink. But having a tap in the room would be pretty cool if you were traveling with a few friends and used it as a sort of small private party room with beds to crash on.

2018-03-07 06:43:21 PM
For everyone talking about the tap lines having to be super long and requiring a ton of maintenance... can't each room just have its own keg? I imagine it would also make it easy for the hotel to bill for the amount of beer consumed - just subtract the keg weight at checkout from the weight at checkin and you know exactly how much beer the guests drank.

Honest question. I'm not some kind of expert beerologist or anything.

I think they like to cut you off at one bar just to get you to stroll over to one of the others. If you are still sober enough to keep making the rounds then you should be good to go. Also, I hope they are still a popular spot in 20 years as my kid graduated from Bothell High last sping.
