comparing midterms 2018 to 2014

Ted Cruz got 4,000 votes more than all the GOP candidates combined in 2014 (less than 1% more)

Beto O'Rourke got 131,000 more votes than all the Dems combined in 2014. (26% more)

More than twice as many dems voted in 2018 than 2014

Only 12% more republicans voted in 2018 than 2014

Also in the TX 07 Congressional Race.
in 2014, only 6,000 people voted for dems in the TX 07  primary.
in 2018, Three different democrat candidates got more than 6,000 votes each.   A total of +33,000 dems voted in the 2018 TX 07 primary.  That is more than 5X as many as 2014

One downside though.
Republicans are still outvoting Democrats.  It will be interesting to see what happens in the general though with these kinds of spikes in Democratic turn out.

Not really, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't try.  Texas is still at least a few elections away from being a swing state.

I also heard a few people who vote Democratic in the general, voted in the Republican primary because of county races (trying to moderate some of the local-level nutjobbery).  Don't know how much that would affect the numbers.

This is a number 7 seed going up against a 2 seed. There's no bad outcome for the 7 seed. Worst case scenario, Beto forces the GOP to commit millions of dollars to a race they should have had on lockdown, money they won't be able to spend on other races. Best case, Cruz gets the pavement.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's first shot at his expected Democratic challenger, Rep. Beto O'Rourke? Mocking his name.

As Tuesday's primaries were closing, Cruz's campaign released a 60-second radio ad that was a country music jingle prodding O'Rourke for going by "Beto" rather than "Robert."

"Liberal Robert wanted to fit in, so he changed his name to Beto and hid it with a grin," the song says.

The same Robert Mercer who funded Steve Bannon and Breitbart and Cambridge Analytica.

I heard him do an interview on NPR. I should probably look for it and posted here. He used to be in a punk rock band, and the story he told was telling some Christian talk show that they were a Christian punk rock band to get on air. They were not, in fact, a Christian punk rock group, but they came up with some songs for the show.

He looks far dorkier than I would've guessed from his voice. He had a very pleasant voice.

That's because they're used to dirt weed, where you have to smoke a ton of it to have any effect.

I didn't vote in the primary 'cause honestly, I'd vote for a literal lump of armadillo sh*t before I'll vote Cruz.

There is nothing more disgusting than being a liberal in Texas and seeing "your representatives" in Facebook. Dan "Bathroom Bill" Patrick. Greg "Religious Freedom" Abbott, Ted "Humon" Cruz, Cornyn, Pence, Trump. There is no group of people that could possibly represent me less.

/yes, i did vote in the only general election that's taken place since I got here
