Given how fat that woman looks in that picture, I could see how a doctor could consider meth a way to help her lose weight.

Dextroamphetamine is not the exact same as methamphetamine. However they do act pretty much the same in the brain.

And the pills have a higher potency (much higher), don't come with heavy metal poisoning, and can still make you hallucinate just like street meth.

A proper and needed root canal shouldn't need opioids. An extraction doesn't need more than some ice and Tylenol. Grinding down of root burs or wisdom tooth mining, those can use a few Tylenol 3's for the first few days.

That's not the POINT. Oh yeah...how about a colonoscopy you shouldn't NEED sedation...while someone shoves a camera tube up your ass. You shouldn't need Nitrous or Novacain for a filling if you transcendental medication.

IT's all "You Shouldn't need"...unless it's your ass getting a cambot snaked up your butt.

For most people, you are probably correct.  For me, I wish I was that lucky.  Having to take Rx level doses of NSAIDs or Tylenol for my migraines is scary enough, but when the pain still is not touched, it is a huge PITA.

We used to get prescription speed pills from an overweight woman in the neighborhood in the 70's. It was by far the best speed I have ever done. Some of them are banned now. Street crank is aptly named in comparison.

Dextroamphetamine is not the exact same as methamphetamine. However they do act pretty much the same in the brain.

Adderall is actually made up of 4 different amphetamine salts. About 75% reduce to dextroamphetamine, the rest to levoamphetamine. Still not meth, though it does the same thing in equivalent doses (hint- a legitimate dose of any legal amphetamine is much less than what addicts are taking to get high)
Methamphetamine is still a legal drug, though it's seldom prescribed, mainly due to the stigma it has. Generally, they prescribe dextroamphetamine or sometimes Adderall instead for weight loss.
And yes, all of the above show up the same on a drug test.

My Normal dentist works for a university. It's basic normal stuff there His office just does cleaning, filling and xrays and tooth cleaning shaming about flossing .

I had tooth that need 'oral surgery'  extraction. and got a referral to the dental school.
Well..at first I was like okay students. etc. And it was excellent...I did request the Nitrous option. And you had to do that before hand...like they didn't have many rooms/students set up for that.
and it was amazing...they came in with like a 'menu' of nitrous flavors..."Pina Colada, Sea Mist, Summer Mint" that kinda thing...and I'm like Oh FARK...Summer mint. and they strap on the nose thing...nothing is happening to me.....then after about 10 mins this old guy comes in and looks at the tank and says something "Turn this up...that's way too low" and the old guy reaches down to the tank and turns up the juice and 5 mins latter it's bliss.

I've been twice to dental school and had students and each time was better than commercial dentists.
They're more so 'on stage' and careful than the 65 yo guy that just does it day to day year to year and is on autopilot.

Another time.....when I worked for a University.

I had a skin tag, infected, burned off my butthole. MF HURT LIKE HELL.
I had ask the doctor at the time 'give me something for pain' he's like Oh well..just take a tylenol.

About 10 mins later I see one of my 'normal doctors' in the hall way. As the liquid nitrogen freeze is wearing off. ...And it's a SHE.
I tell her look I just had liquid nitrogen blown up my ass and this chuckle fark is just giving me 'take a aspirin'
I mean if you have your hooha bits frozen with nitrogen wouldn't you want want something better than a tylenol.
She grins and writes me a script for 4 lortabs.

Yup. Adderal is basically pharmaceutical grade meth. College kids use to chop up their time release pills and snort them. These days they probably smoke half of them and trade the rest for fentanyl.

Going to school for over 20 years--and often into six figure debt--to function as a gatekeeper serving the dual functions of ensuring  people get as little pleasure out of substances as possible, and big pharma continues to extract their abysmal, villainous portion of this nation's GDP, is a good job though.

Migraines are far more complex than just pain and there are medications that treat them much better than just NSAIDS. There are several medications that have been developed for just migraines.

A colonoscopy is far more invasive to the body than pulling a tooth or doing a root canal. You equating the reward of getting a candy for doing a medical procedure sounds really off. I would suspect that you might be self medicating since invasive medical procedures can be very stressful. I suggest that you speak with your general physician or a mental health specialist to check for undiagnosed illnesses.

Since mental health was decoupled from medicine for so long in the US, it has led to many people with easily treatable illnesses from getting the care that they need. Now it is required to be covered by your health insurance (a judge declared the the brain part of the human body. Yes, it took a court case to do this).

Many people have been self medicating with caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Doing so is dangerous and does not work when extra stress is added, like getting a tooth drilled. You don't want the drugs for the pain, you want them to dull the symptoms from the stress you just went through. There are medications that will work better and will even things out much better than even the best pain killers/whatever you were using before ever could. They won't take everything away, but they will take the edge off enough that you can deal with things your self easily, once you learn how to again. Numb is not the answer.

Or you want the drugs to get high in general, which is another thing that your medical insurance covers treatment for, but only once per year. I have never really been able to personally experience the allure for getting high on most things. I do drink and do get drunk about once a week. I have used MJ for a medical condition that I have and since it was simpler to get it retail than with a prescription I would some times not get the high CBD, low THC variety I needed. I would instead get an equal level of both at those times when the CBD varieties were sold out. And I would end up high on THC then and really didn't feel a desire to do that every time.

I have also reacted to several medications in a way that would get me high. I did not care for any of those experiences. I just want to be be free of pain, able to sleep, and have my wits about me.

\sorry for the text wall
\\but seriously, you shouldn't need heavy drugs for just dental work unless they are digging into your jawbones

In the late 80's, my roomate in the Army used to snort crank. He said it wasn't detectable in a piss test. I don't know if that was true then or not. There was more than one time when the whole barrack was awaked to stand out in the hall to await being taken into the shiatter to piss in a cup. He never got hauled away, so maybe it was true. {Shrug}

Have you been diagnosed for OCD or Autism. Because you seem fairly obsessive about things. Maybe BiPolar etc.

And when you say "self medicating" with caffeine...seriously. A cup of coffee is self medicating? Are you mormon? Or into homeopathy or a high function autistic ocd?

No. It's called Desoxyn (sp?), and it is pharmaceutical METHamphetamine, prescribed (extremely rarely) for narcolepsy and morbid obesity.
