Which he very likely will. Right after the special election in Pennsylvania.

We'll see if he sticks with the trade war talk after this next special election.

Given the moves by Icahn and Deripashkalovich (or whatever), this is doubtful.  He's in it to (easily) win it (narrator: he won't).

My uncle builds barns near the Canadian border. He gets his steel and aluminium from Canada because it is the closest distributer. He also posts every single right wing meme because he assumes if he saw it on the internet it must be true. This is going to be devastating if it goes through.

So basically, their argument goes : "Hey, we thought you were going to do the things you said we like, and that you only said the thing we didn't like to get elected !"

I see the same thing in my country, France, about those that want to vote for the National Front : "well, yeah, I know those things in their program is terrible, but they only say that to get elected. They'll never dare do this."

What people forget is that Republican President Trump has just enacted a political version of Chekov's Gun:
"If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there."

Trump's hung tariffs on the wall, now all the other nations are going to expect him to use it on them; even if he doesn't, it's going to adjust their thought processes about negotiation even if Trump's administration has no intent to use them.

Well hell, as rational adults they weighed all of the available information and decided that Trump was the man for them, despite mountains of evidence that he would just make things harder for them.  So, one has to assume that they knew what they were doing and were prepared for any market shifts such a shiat for brains was going to cause.  I, for one, look forward to reading about how successful American farmers become because they had such forethought and will adapt so quickly to the economic conditions.

This won't change anything because of ignorance. If you start out with the conclusion that Trump is right, then any failings must be the work of someone else, democrats, lefties, whatever.

It's flat-earth mentality, start with a conclusion and work backwards.

Gosh I never thought of it that way, but I guess that's exactly what it is. I never realized it was so much fun and could be so satisfying! See, I always thought I would value my own comfort and quality of life over something as pointless as watching another person suffer. That was until I got this level of hatred that I have for Trump supporters now. It's kind of like learning to walk in a new pair of shoes. I don't really normally hate many people, as a practice I try to avoid it. But those absolute farks. I'm learning things about myself, like how I would gladly eat barbecued rodents under a bridge if it meant that I could see a Trumper family wailing and gnashing their teeth, crying up to the heavens for God to put them out of their suffering and misery.

Schadenfreude at stigginit backfiring and stigginit are not the same thing. The sort of mind that can't see the difference is the sort that would vote for Trump.

I left the states after Bush was reelected. That demonstrated to me that there was something fundamentaly wrong with the voting public. I was briefly optimistic when Obama was elected, but gotDamn did the pendulum swing back hard.
I'm not a proponent of stigginit, as too many innocents get caught in the crossfire. Yet I dream of a time when more people will vote in their own interests, as opposed to being against "others".
If it takes leopards eating faces for that to happen, then so be it.

Whew, thank goodness I'm in the former. I think another distinction is that pure Stigginit is a proactive thing, you have to make the choice to do something that will harm you in exchange for it also harming a group that you hate, I believe. Mine is more just coming to the understanding that I am willing to suffer for trumps actions, through no action on my own, if it means that his supporters will also suffer. Or to put it another way, I'm OK with being part of the last generation of living Americans if it means that the Trumpers go to, so whoever comes next can start from a clean slate.

That is the definition of stigginit, as a wannabe. You're just being passive aggressive. Make up your mind.

Taking Mom & Pop farms and consolidating that land into Big Ag megafarms has been the GOP's unspoken mission since the Reagan years.  During the 80's Farm Crisis small farmers bit the hands of the liberals saving their farms and doubled down on the Big AG agents--namely the GOP--responsible for setting the policies that forced small farmers to operate with high interest debt.  And then you doubled down again.  And again.  And here we are, with Trump, doing exactly what he told you he was going to do.

Face it Farmers, you're farked.  And you did it to yourselves.  Stick your head between your legs and kiss your assets goodbye.

Yeah, but they just HAD to vote GOP, because of abortion, and gay rights, and guns, and because the Republicans are the patriotic freedom-loving American party!

. . .I know a lot of rural Americans who really think that, who loyally vote blind straight-ticket Republican every election because they see the GOP as the America-loving Jesus-loving freedom-respecting patriotic Party, and see the Democrats as the party of immorality, irresponsibility, oppression, and tyranny who just wants to take their guns, install drive-through abortion clinics in every town, ban Christianity, instill Sharia law, ect.

. . .and they constantly gripe that their life is getting worse because more and more government programs they rely on are being eliminated, or that companies are getting more and more leverage on them ect. . .so their solution is to just pray even more for things to get better and keep voting Republican (because Jesus can fix everything and the GOP is the party of Jesus).

I just want to give a shout out to the small farmers in my blue state who depend on immigrant labor, see the immediate impact of climate change, and depend on the ACA for health care. They voted Hillary, as much as they disliked her.

Farmers and other simple folks of the land are the chickens that can be counted on to vote for the Colonel every time, even though all the programs that keep them afloat come from progressives.

Oh, yes, voting for social conservatives will bring back the good old days when a natural disaster caused your farm to go bankrupt and those greedy bankers would grab your land. But you'll get your abortion bans and students will be forced to worship your invisible sky pixie, so at least you'll get your brownie points for the afterlife.

Yep. These farmers have no one but themselves to blame for the predicament they are in. And they will overwhelmingly go back to the polls and pull the lever for the 'R' again. And wonder, again, why their situation just got worse, again.
