(Football Perspective)   In analysis of the race for Kirk Cousins, a young healthy free agent QB of some NFL accomplishments, only two teams are real candidates to land him. Cleveland and the Jets are not those teams   ( footballperspective.com) divider line

Sigh, John Elway isn't spending $30m/yr on Cousins. It's just not going to happen.

Is this really a national story?  It's saturated DC sports radio for two years. I have no perspective.

I would rather they drop that $30M/yr on building up the O-Line, and see what a QB who isn't sitting on his ass after every play can do.

I'm not so sure about that. It wouldn't surprise me either way.

The most noise I'm hearing is it's either the Jets or Vikes.

This is a what-if article.

Might as well be a "Who is better, Lebron or Michael Jordon?" fluff piece to fill the offseason doldrums

The Vikings are an oddity - they must believe that they are in a 100% "win-now" position, as that's the only reason to splurge on a free agent quarterback when they have 3 to choose from in-house.

FTA: "The Browns are not a win-now team..."

Also: water wet, sky blue, women have secrets.

His agent would LOVE for the Browns to be involved - I'm sure he'd like nothing more than to have Cleveland throwing insane numbers out these he can use those against teams Cousins wants to play for.

/Browns fan
//The talking heads in town have given up on Cousins

I'd be cool with my Browns offering 35mill for 1 year, and then both sides part way next season.
There's no reason for either side to want to hitch their wagon, longterm.

He represents a servicable player that will help a team get through a season without a paper bag on their head.  Thats it.  Its worth something... just not worth everything.

Sadly, it's the only real story coming out of the NFL at this point... I'm still tripping on how a 3rd tier QB is about to get paid like a top 5.  Cousins is not that good.

People unclear on the concept.

Someone please explain to me why I'm supposed to believe that Cousins would be better for the Vikings than Keenum? I'm not convinced that Cousins is actually any better than Keenum, and if he is, it's not by much. Keenum has a year of experience with the team already, and he's probably cheaper.

None of those three are under contract.

Keenum - there's a decent chance that Keenum was a product of his surroundings, and would not repeat this season.  His late year stats weren't great and he just isn't a guy that you can count on to lead a comeback if needed.  That Philly game was completely over at 24-7.

Bradford - can't trust his knees

Bridgewater - was possibly ready to make a jump, but he has been out for two years after a devastating injury.  Can't hand the keys to a SB-capable team to him.

Cousins is consistent if not spectacular.  He will get overpaid, but that is how the NFL works.

The NFC north might have Rodgers, Stafford, and Cousins?

I can't wait for next season.

All of the analysis I have seen with Denver is that they would offer more guaranteed.
So what about $25m/yr for 5 with $100m guaranteed?

Wrong!  Cousins will sign a sweetheart deal with the Patriots, who will then trade Tom Brady to the Browns for all of their draft picks.

I still think that's crazy. But I'm not a GM. I'd rather see them drop that $100 mil on the O-line and go back to the draft for a QB

Local sprots radio guy is reporting 4 years 121mil.  I'll take it

The Browns and the Jets have just as good of a chance at Cousins as the Vikings and the Broncos. They just have to offer up something that the Vikings and Broncos can't, a fully guaranteed contract. The teams with less of a chance to win now have to offer something that the win now teams can't. Make Cousins pick money vs wins.

/A 5 year deal with $90MM guaranteed from a win now team.
//A 3-5 year fully guaranteed contract valued at more than $100MM to a maybe win in the future team.
///Which do you take?
//If it was me, money talks.
/Dollar dollar bills y'all.
