This is stupid.

Nope, this is the new normal now.

What a wuss.  I always had a rule:  NO CHICKS IN THE BAND.   It was a good rule.  A fine rule.  Now look at what is happening.

That's a given.  My point is that I never scored.

What an odd thing to apologize for, coming from him. He had a woman as a bassist in his band. He's collaborated with women, including recently, where him and St. Vincent more or less split an album. Talking Heads used female back-up singers on their later albums and tours. I've never thought of David Byrne as a misogynist or someone who's against working with women. And yeah, 24 people on an album, all dudes, I get what he's saying. But by that standard, how many of the guys were transgender? Or Asian? Handicapped? If you can be inclusive, by all means, do so. But that's secondary to the creative work you're doing. If it's all guys or all girls or a room full of cats, as long as it results in the sound you want, so be it.

2018-03-06 08:29:58 AM
With the way that he sings in falsetto and just above his range in "Everybody's Coming to my House," yeah, it could have used a woman's touch.

....and I didn't even mention his album with Fatboy Slim, Here Lies Love, which heavily features an array of female vocalists, to say nothing of its subject.

I just saw Stop Making Sense for the first time last week. I don't know why I had that blind spot, as I was a fan of both Talking Heads and Jonathon Demme.

Not the nicest person, from what I've read. He also recently said doing a Taking Heads reunion tour would basically be a boring, obvious cash grab. Our youth is dead and we should act like grown-ups.

No but according to Tina Weymouth he was very dismissive of her

Not a completely wrong statement.

What I don't get is the OMG he didn't collaborate with women on his album.  Is women not being represented in music a problem?  Seems to me there are many women out there.  Trying to pigeonhole diversity into a creative venture can be difficult, and adding diversity just for the sake of it never works out good.

If the music works with a particular set of musicians?  It works.

Was he supposed to? Is this a requirement now? Did he break some law by not doing it? Was there a gun to his head telling him he had to?

Well, it wasn't limited to her, he was equally dismissive to all his bandmates. Brian Eno was the only one he admitted as peer, if you believe the backbiting about how the band came apart.

kmfjd: does anyone really give a shiat?

This matters to people who mostly scream the loudest but won't buy his records anyway.

I find it amusing that these sort of accusations aren't leveled at bands like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Solstafir or Mayhem.

Come on SJW's....pony up and be fair.  Call them out and see what happens.....

A guy wrote that article.  He didn't collaborate with a woman in copy/pasta of twitter rants.  Just him writing about another man.  Where is a Jack White of journalism when you need them?

And another misogynist point:  Portugal The Man?  Why not Portugal the Trans?  Come on, live in the moment people.  Every waking second must be integrated!!!!

Why are you pigeonholing creative ventures as being the exception for needing diversity?  What is so special about creative ventures that it deserves to live above the rest of sub-human ventures?

Why no giant squirrel costumed people on the album? Something farking wrong with giant squirrels? Why no left handed glockenspiel players on this album? #rockintheglocken Until everyone is represented everywhere at every single moment we are all doing it wrong, right?

Leave the poor old guy alone and either listen to his music or don't. Terrible signal...

Because the more you try, the more shiat you get from people who demand that you be 100% pure by their standards. Notice that they don't call out Kid Rock. One duet with Sheryl Crow is good enough, that's all they could ever expect from him.

He makes chick music. The broads wont buy any of his albums if he doesn't include a few skirts in his band.

It sounds as though one was placed to his head after the album was finished.

The best art is the kind where the artist feels obliged to collaborate with other artists based on the nature of their genitals.

Interestingly, during the Carter administration the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission was looking into the music industry and bands that were all male, suggesting that they might be violating Title IX. The Rossington-Collins band even hired a female vocalist partly because of the floated guidelines, which were never implemented.

What we really need are the Virtue Awards, where the most woke and spineless are praised for being better than everyone else.

Ike Turner learned this early on and not a single one of them would have dared say it to his face.

It's no longer acceptable to hire people based on their talent or experience.  Instead, everyone must be chosen in order to achieve a careful balance of gender, race, ethnic and religious minorities, and more.

Everyone who does not do this is a Nazi.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals."

-C.S. Lewis

And her husband. They found out there was no longer a band from reading an interview David did for a magazine. He's always been considered less than empathic and it was rare for him to form real friendships. It feels like tfa is him compensating (or something) for what he lacked regarding others. I feel a bit bad for him because it's obvious he can't quite grasp the concept.
Tina is a severely underrated bassist,  she can do it all.

Silly fact: I only know this because Byrne tweeted about it last year, but Selena Gomez's song Bad Liar runs the bass line from Psycho Killer.

Kubo: The best art is the kind where the artist feels obliged to collaborate with other artists based on the nature of their genitals.

On the upside, it will make reviewing art much easier. We don't have to listen to the music, or know anything about the art. Just read about who was involved and if it meets certain criteria, it gets 5 stars.
