I feel like there's 3 kinds of people: those that fear snakes, those that fear mice/rats, and those that fear spiders.

We talk about this in my family once in a while because everyone has their great fear, but I just realized my brother doesn't fit into any of these categories. Is there a 4th animal fear I'm forgetting?

No shiat. Our primate brains are hardwired to fear them. I had all three and most women whom came over would make me cover up their cages or just would want to leave. The women who wanted to see feeding time, are the women I dated the longest.

Bats?

I'm not afraid of any animals and I'm raising my kids the same way, we catch insects and spiders together and go outside at sunset to watch the bats catch the bugs around our back yard. Snakes are common here too my little girl thinks they are cool and she understands to keep her distance and they wont hurt her.

I have cynophobia (so getting a kick, etc.). Fortunately, it only seems to kick in with larger dogs, so anything Corgi/Shiba/etc.- sized or smaller doesn't strike me with the sudden desire to embark on a subsonic sprint. That said, my partner's extended family, all of whom have at least one SUV-sized dog in their respective households, have teased me for nearly two decades for my hardwired inability to see their everyday pets simply as lovable and derpy additions to the family (which, I'm sure they might very well be, if I could only get the reptile-part of my brain to SHUT THE HELL UP about the very guaranteed certainty that my neck's about to be aerated if any of the dogs so much as notice me).

Stinging insects are what get me. bees are cool for some reason, but wasps, yellow jackets, and so on will be part of my personal hell when I'm done here. Ants OK from a safe distance.

I hate those bastards. If you've ever seen so many that you couldn't walk outside without having several land on you and looked out the window and saw at least 50 ladybugs on it, you'll understand how they're not that cute.

I don't really fear them though. I'm talking about involuntary shrieking if you're caught by surprise by one. For me that's spiders and (eeeugh) centipedes. I know people that have that fear of snakes (I ran into one when I was hiking recently, my heart beat faster but my reaction was more, "cooool!")

Warthogs?

I'm not afraid of any of the first three, I used to catch and keep blacksnakes as a kid, used to have successive generations of mama spider living on the ceiling in my shower, mice/rats are just mice/rats, bugs are just bugs, and I build bat boxes to invite them to live on my property.

I did once run into a herd of warthogs on a narrow trail once... "Ok, NOW the primal fear is kicking in!"

Oh! Opossums...

Went out for a smoke one night at the farmhouse I was living in. Turned on the light, and 40 pair of red possum eyes turned on me, gathered around a tree 20' from the porch.

I decided I didn't need a smoke right then.

Fricken' creepy pale zombies of the animal world.

This is such a dumb theory that I've decided not to dignify it with a response four times now.
What the---
Too many variables, to put it succinctly.
I'm gonna read further downthread and just. . Jesus. H. Christ.

Oh, the women who didn't immediately want to puke when they entered your apartment were the ones you dated longer?
Go figure.
I bet they're also the creepy biatches who made you wish you'd never met them after it ended, too.

Sharks and ocelots is the fourth Group Of Most-est Scarifying Animals.
Obviously.
(sometimes also meerkats, prairie dogs, and rainbow trout but NEVER goldfish or piranha, don't ask, it's a long story)

You're not weird. Your instincts are sound. Your gross relatives probably frenchkiss their dogs and walk around wondering why they're sick all the time.

AND they don't just sting and bite.
They ALSO lay eggs INSIDE your paralyzed rotting corpse so that when the monster-larvae hatch they will be nourished by EATING YOUR PARALYZED ROTTING CORPSE.
