Dan Whisenhunt said that Apple hadn't had too much trouble with birds flying into the building's huge glass windows.
No way this doesn't kill lots of birds.

So a bunch of nerds call 911 because they have a little cut on their head?   Wussies.

What do you have against silhouettes of color?

"They have a small cut on their head and they are bleeding, slightly disoriented."

Well of course they're disoriented. They can't take two steps in any direction without smacking into an invisible wall. You try it and see how you feel.

Just put a whole bunch of these on the glass doors:

After that trio of 911 calls, Apple began to take this problem more seriously, adding stickers to the windows to make them easier to see.

Well, it finally happened. If they are putting farking stickers on the glass that a thousand dedsigners slaved over the spec on, that will definitely wake Steve Jobs up. I can assure you he'd rather burn the thing to the ground or fold the company than put stickers on the glass.

Concussions aren't a joke.

If you're disorientated, then there's a problem.

Uh... those are walls. They're just emulating windows.

Really, does Apple want to 86 its employees?

We have a glass pane next to a door where I work and people have been known to plow into it.  I asked the guy who sits across it how often it happens and his reply was "not as often as you might think but when it happens it spectacular".  That's despite a handful of stickers being placed on it.

They are called "manifestation stickers" and while architects don't usually want to use them, they help prevent these accidents.

If they're glass walls, it also works to put a potted plant or two right beside them. It makes for a nice decoration, too, so you can kill two birds with one stone in a glass house.

I was thinking about one simple solution of having small plants in front of the windows, thus marking it as an area not for people to walk through. Then I saw your GIF. I guess my plan is crap, because that dude didn't let the plant in front of the window make him think that maybe there's not an Exit there.

Has anyone done the Windows joke yet?  Because that was so original the first sixty times it was done.

Subby doesn't have this problem, since all the windows in his momma's basement are above head level for a 12-year-old troll.

Just 35 more, and it'll be a marginally acceptable joke. ;-)

I've done it... Whacked out on 10 cups of coffee and engrossed in solving a problem, I was power-walking out for a smoke and reading a printout at the same time...

KABONG! Palm-and-face plant on the glass panel right next to the glass door that opened on the elevator lobby.

The guy waiting for the elevator had the most agog look on his face. I told him "Go ahead and laugh, I earned your derision."

My friends and I rented a house boat with sliding glass doors for a party weekend. The guy who gave us the boat was a tweaker. Those doors were so damn clean that every one of us had walked into them by the time the weekend was over.

Since it's Apple, they probably are trying to convince everyone that this was intended as a feature.

It'd look good if they put an etched apple logo on each of the windows. It'd look cool and make them visible without being tacky.

It's probably company policy required by their insurance company and/or H.R.

CSB

I've worked at two places where people have walked into a window several times. Every time they say "this is a major safety hazard!! You should had them clearly marked!!"

Store 1: you walk into the window to face a wall
Store 2: you walk into the window to a desk.

It's not a design issue. It's a "some people are just too stupid and have access to the internet" issue

It would be simple and inobtrusive to put a thin frosted line.   Heck, they could even get frosted Apple logo decals.

I have frosted colourless hibiscus and turtle decals on my full-length patio doors in Hawaii.  They're inobtrusive, look cool, and stop people from smacking into the closed door.

Put some farking stickers on the windows or put a plant in front of it or something. It's not that hard.

When it's nice outside I'll leave my back sliding patio door open and will leave the screen door open enough so my dogs can come and go as they please. I also have an "X" in duct tape at the bottom corner so if the screen is closed so my dogs don't charge through it when they see a squirrel. That happened once.

It's obvious that the employees are smashing into walls when trying to leave the building because they're going outside wrong.

Yeah, that is because the very use of the sticker reveals that the architect was a dumb farker.
