Of all of the MCU films that I have seen, Black Panther was definitely one of them.

Red Sparrow aka not Black Widow

Natalie Portman's really been coasting on The Professional for a long time.

I would pay $20 just to see thirty minutes of General Okoye solving bad guys with her spear.

Annihilation is supposed to be pretty good, but it got released at the wrong time.

It comes from her being in movies that are constantly flops (this week's Annihilation) or her performance is critically panned (a certain trilogy) or both. She may have been in some smaller films that I haven't seen that are neither but I don't know any.

She was nominated for an Academy Award last year (and won one in 2010).

Ah got it. Yeah I think her disturbing role in The Professional (it buzzed a little to close to child abuse) was mistaken for talent. Her Jackie O, was insipid.

Not a huge Natalie Portman fan, but Annihilation is freaking fantastic. It's sad when really smart sci-go movies don't do well.  This one was just released at the wrong time.

Made it through about a half-hour of that turd. Films like that are why I check out my DVDs from the library instead of renting or buying them.

Portman's good in "Annihilation," but any number of actresses could have done it just as well.... I was actually impressed by Gina Rodriguez, though.

I didn't like black panther, i'd give it 5/10 - it wasn't the cast, writing or effects - I just found it hard to relate to the main characters. The villain was excellent though, one of the best of any marvel move so far - just a pity there wasn't more of him.

Ok that's two, more than most people but she's been in a lot of duds.

A couple of underperforming movies in a row for Jennifer Lawrence. Has she forgotten the golden rule? You can do the risky indie movies as long as you alternate them with the sure fire commercial hits. According to IMDB she has an X Men movie coming out but that looks like a supporting/ensemble role and the only other movie in the works is an "Announced: 2018" movie about the Theranos blood work scam company. Very scant on details for a movie that's supposed to be coming out this year.
Maybe this is a good time for her to take a few years off...

I read somewhere that she's all pissy about being under contract for those, like it's beneath her or something. Not every movie can be an art house indie flick like the Hunger Games.

Maybe this is a good time for her to take a few years off...

She needs to work as much she can before she turns 35 and it's all over.

The acting, sets and costume design were brilliant.  The writing was subpar even for a super hero movie.  It was extremely predictable and formulaic.

I love sci-fi and the marvel movies. I saw both Black Panther and Annihilation over the weekend.

Black Panther reminded me of Thor 1, a competent movie but somewhat boring.

Annihilation reminded me of Arrival. Quality, stylish and thoughtful sci-fi.

Overall I enjoyed Annihilation 100% more.

Black Panther was very good. However, my zest for it has faded a bit over time.
It's still in my top 5 (Marvel Superhero movies), but at #5.

I'm a little surprised black panther has taken the world by storm. I'm glad it has and I damn sure want to see more of a very good character. But having finally seen the movie yesterday I was a little let down. I guess I was overly influenced by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I enjoyed it for sure but I was expecting AAA+++ and I kinda thought it was a B. Next one I want more Black Panther kicking evil villain ass and less fighting with people from his own country

Black Panther surprisingly celebrates Trump as president. Even the royal family in Black Panther decides to put their daughter in charge of the morse important resource of the country. They should've just named her Ivanka in the movie to make it more obvious.

It's because she hates having to get up at 3am every morning and have 10 hours of makeup glued onto her skin while everyone else gets to sleep in. In First Class she was blue for almost the entire film, then when she blew up as a big star she negotiated for less blue makeup scenes in subsequent X-Men movies. She seriously dislikes the procedure as I assume any actress would, and now she's got enough clout to say she won't put up with that shiat anymore.

It's a good movie, but there are other reasons why it's doing so well. Political reasons.

It's not so much a pro-black movie as it is an anti-orange movie.

Yeah, she sort of should have expected that. She could have talked to either the producers or Rebecca Romijn (her predecessor) before signing on. Anyway, I don't really have much sympathy considering how much per film she probably makes. Sitting for The Beast makeup probably isn't a picnic and he probably makes a lot less than her.

I thought she didn't like the X Men movies because she didn't like all the time spent in makeup.

She wasn't a big star at the time and she just wanted a good, well paying job. Now she has options, she's not hard up for cash and she can choose not to do that. It's not like she's Michael Dorn who has nowhere else to go.

Death Wish wasn't bad, but Elisabeth Shue phoned it in, and the ending was stupid gun nut porn.

I was rather disappointed in Annihilationcoming from the Ex Machina director.  It definitely had its moments though and the ending was a mind blowing trip. So many plot holes and pseudo-science mumbo jumbo.

I liked Annihilation. It had weird pacing, which helped with the eerie feel. And, wow, was it beautiful. She isn't a bad actress,, at all. She is, however, better at a type of character. Nervous, confused... Her best roles fit. Heat, Black Swan, Leon, V for Vendetta (not great, but she had moments that were quite good).

No, he doesn't,but at least he's still working. Which is better than most actors. I wonder if he still gets residuals from TNG and DS9.

She's worth over a hundred million bucks and has shown no propensity for any of the shenanigans and ridiculous purchases all those dumbasses got into trouble with. If the news is too be believed she's in more danger of giving it all away than spending it all. People can change of course but she seems wiser than most of your list even at a relatively youthful age.

The directing got the most out of the script. Very good crisp action sequences with little shaky-cam.
