I don't follow soccer, so I don't know who this guy is. But it certainly was a nice act on his part.

I think the JJ Watts should've been the guy's first clue.

He's perfect...too perfect.  What are the chances he has some serious skeletons in his closet?

I know.

But even though I'm a Seahawks fan, you can't help but wonder about Russell Wilson as well.  :-)

All kidding aside, that story is awesome.

usually to be stomped down with baseless accusations! ( i joke i joke, i keed i keed, but there is a sliver of truth to jokes)

The guy seems like a genuine dude.  I know that he will always be Houston's son for what he did after the hurricane. Hope he retires here too!

He really does seem to love our city, with all the things he's done since being here. I remember there was talk of naming SH-99 in his honor. But I'd like to see Mattress Mack get something first.

He was awesome on "The League" as well.  He picked up a coffin with Taco inside...with one hand!

He went out of his way to do a good deed for a good cause. Are you an asshole 100% of the time, or do you just play one on Fark?

He went to Wisconsin, and everyone I've talked to back there in Mad-city pretty much won't say a cross word about him or his lil brother.

All accounts I've heard are that he's actually that nice a guy IRL

(Meaning we'll find the bones of dead girl scout troops under his garage floor after his passing, of course)

Not skeletons, but he has some asshole attributes.  He questions the commitment of other players that don't have the same pregame routine as him, which is a douche bag move.

It's the hip thing to do.  One can simultaneously pose as superior and clever.

I heard an interview with JJ Watt that I really liked. He was getting some shiat for always being front and center with charities, as if it was being made about him and not whatever charity he was supporting. I get that, it would be kind of easy to read it the wrong way. Watt said stuff that amounted to that he understands people saying that but if he puts himself out there that means automatic media attention for the cause he is trumpeting. So he can either decide to be the face of something and help it get more resources or he could keep his head down and not give people a chance to say stupid stuff.

It seemed to be hard for Watt to open up but towards the end of the interview he started to, though it still seemed like he was somewhat socially awkward or maybe that is just the way he is in his public life. He came off as pretty genuine but guarded and now I have what I think is a better understanding of the guy. I'm sure he'll continue to get criticized by "making it all about him" but there are far worse things in life than that being a byproduct of legitimately trying to help out.

2018-03-02 04:51:24 PM
Also, if JJ Watt isn't positioning himself to pick up Jennifer Aniston I'd just like to announce to her that I'd be more than happy to be her rebound guy.

Agreed.

There's a guy on one of our local sports talk stations that dislikes him in an amusing way.

IIRC:  "Everytime J.J. Watt is on TV, I feel guilty for not going to the gym and eating better.  And I don't like that."

He seems a lot like The Rock to me...a bit of a showoff in the workout video department (both with damned good reason IMO).

But they both have charisma coming out their ears and a charmers smile.

Rememebr an article when Watt had his back injury, couldn't do any workouts but the Dr's would let him walk til his hearts content.  So he would find places that he wanted to eat at and park like 10 miles (maybe more) away from the place and walk to and from. Even commented on the strange looks he got.

If you have ever watched him interact with kids before a game, or any kids period...you instantly remember why, as a kid, you looked up to the giant athletes who were just really big kids who cared.

Had similar encounters with bikers friends of the family when i was a kid, big ol' Billy Badass would melt in front of a toddler who wanted to play.

There actually is a lot more good in the world than there is bad...just stupid humans simply cannot resist craning the neck to see a train wreck, and the media has always been happy to oblige.

Pu lease. He signed his name. Did I miss the part where he paid his way through college? Pick up the tab on his mother's chemo treatments? You need to raise your "good deed" bar.

I'd be down for that. Plus name that part of I-45 after him and a wing in a hospital for his role in the mobile stroke unit. Plus, that Pavlovian mindfark of ads he did in the 80's. I still to this day can sing the GF phone number. Plus Thunderbolt Transmissions.

Youre right. Had a bad day/attutude.

I'm sure it meant a lot. Seems like a good guy. Soccer still boring tho. Unless you're outside the US.
