If everybody's disqualified, IMO the problem is the rules, not the competitors. Widen the lanes?

If everyone was always being disqualified, it's the rules. But one time is dumb luck or a gaggle of dipshiats

Yeah, it just proves that all track kids everywhere are the same.  I've seen so many dumb things watching track meets, even at relatively high levels, "Track kids gonna track" pretty much sums it up here.  My sister in law lapped nearly the entire field in her first ever mile, but was disqualified because she cut in one stride too early on the last corner.  Happens.

is it bad that I immediately assumed this was because of doping?

So they're showing highlights from this same event on NBCSN right now. It turns out that the lanes are within legal limits, but are slightly narrower than normal. Still, you've got to pay attention. Don't run on the inside of the lane. Know when it's ok to move over. It's not that hard, is it?

/they just mentioned the story in the article, no video of it

Wait, if track and field athletes need wider lanes, the obesity problem is getting very bad.

Exactly.  Home plate has always been 17" wide in every level of baseball for over 100 years.  You don't change the plate when no one can pitch over it, you get new pitchers.
