It looks weird because they're usually presented at an angle. If they usually faced forward, they would look weird from the side.

No, they look weird. Like looking at yourself with your face pressed against a photocopier angle

This looks like a mystery. I can't solve it. CAN YOU?

I only saw a couple pictures, all from early episodes when the animation was still crap...

Also, who gives a shiat?

There were lots of pics in the Sun article.  Do you have a filter blocking them maybe?

Smear frames are wonderful.

its the case because the show was created from stylized Groening sketches which he generated from a side angle.

To make a cartoon, there are going to be more movement required, hence it was the Fox animators who probably came up with the look from straight-on, not the original artist.

They're from a website called Dark Simpsons Comics (darksimpsons.com) and all they do is make stories with Simpsons screenshots.

This isn't some kind of frame refresh anomaly where you're seeing bits from multiple frames. They actually drew his face that way.

TL, DR; 90% of these "weird" characters look weird because they are expressing an emotion, or being viewed from the perspective of a viewer who is tripping balls or drunk. The rest don't look any weirder than yellow anthropomorphic animated characters SHOULD look. A few are when the character is playing a part(Ralph WIggum doing his best Nixon/Quimby mashup), or showing how ugly the character(Any closeup of Moe). Oh, and as someone pointed out, some are just because it was the early animation of questionable quality.

Seriously, do NONE of these people understand how farking animation works?
