Atlanta is not Georgia. Outside of the city proper is is mostly like you imagine the redneck bigoted south to be. Amazon would be right to dismiss Atlanta and the entire south if they're they're looking for something like Seattle.

But hey, they'll have their guns!

Maybe the NRA will re-locate there.

Wonder if we'll see the day when the NRA ends up the same way as HIAG

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIAG

1. Organization formed with good intentions
2. Cretins join, ruin organization
3. Government disbands organization

History is a flat circle.

The irony is that Amazon wouldn't pick ATL because tax cuts for corporations are no longer a sure thing in Georgia.

Given that Amazon Prime Video has the NRA TV channel, they hardly have the moral high ground here.

(Ditto Apple and YouTube [thus Google / Alphabet].)

Frankly, I was surprised Atlanta made the first cut since the state continues to push for a "religious freedom bill" similar to the one that caused North Caroline so much trouble.  Georgia and hi-tech is just a bad mix.  Georgia Tech grads cannot wait to leave the state.

Why does everything have to be a holier-than-thou pissing contest?

I thought Georgia had a pretty good shot to get it actually.

There has always been a close-to-zero possibility that Amazon's second HQ would be in a southern state. The only reason I don't say zero is Austin being on the list.

It would be awesome to see them remove Atlanta.

This isn't about morals, it's about the state being capricious with their tax policy.  Businesses hate that kind of uncertainty.  Amazon doesn't want to move to some place and then find that their tax burden arbitrarily doubles after their second year on site.

Yep. Politicians ineptly playing at corporate blackmail is never a good idea.

Actuall ly outside of Seattle the state is pretty much Preppers.

BMFPitt: Atlanta was never going to get HQ2.

Probably not.  It wouldn't surprise me if it landed in one of the surrounding counties though.  I see no reason to build in a gulch or old Army base when you can buy an old horse farm 25-30 miles away and it's where a lot of folks that work in Atlanta already live.  I hope they don't drop it in Gwinnett but out any of the interstates other than 85 is easily plenty good.

Kinda related, but I love when the right self-owns by reading a headline but not the source:

You're welcome! Hope you had a great vacation. Enjoy the TF. I love Fark. I could go site by site and explain why Fark is better. It's not any sort of absolute thing, it's not the best site for everybody, but if you're peculiar in any number of ways it's just the thing.

Ugh....  I fly into Atlanta on Sunday and head up to Alpharetta for two weeks on business.  Third time. Previous two pretty much convinced me never to move to that state.

I assume that there is a White House intern whose specific job is telling Trump not to respond to Onion articles.

Same with Indy... I think they let a few of these through to see if "maybe" they would try to do positive things towards LGBTQ folks or stick with their "religious freedom" crap... both states are too GOP controlled to let that go.   Amazon is likely going to either IMO Chicago, Boston, or D.C. area.

So a win-win, basically?

/Amazon is a tax cheat and that headquarters is no prize.

I'm just hoping that Hollywood stops filming there as a result of this.

They might, other than Chuck Norris movies or Tim Allen and Rob Schnieder straight-to-Netflix specials.
