(Forbes)   Mark Zuckerberg investing heavily in Africa and is building a tech hub in Lagos, Nigeria. Sounds like someone is concerned that the russian bot era may be coming to an end   ( forbes.com) divider line

Didn't they just pass a law taking land away from everyone?

Honestly, we ignore African markets at our peril.  The Chinese already have a head start on us there.

This. Africa as a continent is the last China. In 50 years, the third world will be everyone or no one. "Cheap" labor is about dinner, then hyper capitalism is screwed.

That said, I'm dead certain mechanisms are already in place to keep that gravy train rolling. I'm just not smart enough to see how they are playing out.

Nope.  Most of Africa has made zero progress fixing their incredibly divisive internal tensions.  Until they fix that, they will never get their shiat together.  The only reason China's there is Africa's home of a lot of raw materials China needs, and since China doesn't have any anti-corruption rules they can go hog wild with the bribes (unlike Europe and the US) - from a recent FT article (Fark won't let me link due to paywall): "Beijing's official policy of non-interference makes it an attractive partner to African leaders in countries from Angola to Zimbabwe fed up with lectures from former colonial powers about human rights or democracy".

So in a couple years, there may actually be a rich guy spamming people because he needs help getting his money out of Africa?

China will do well until the locals -- either high or low -- get tired of them and they are driven out at knifepoint.

Like everyone else was.

Certain parts of Africa are like China 20 years ago. A smart investor gets in early.

We should send whoever keeps greenlighting these Forbes links to Nigeria.
