Writers do this all the time. I'm surprised more filmmakers don't.

Sacramento could become Gerwig's Yoknapatawpha (Faulkner), her Wessex (Hardy), her Dublin (Joyce), her Albany (Kennedy).

No, I'm not trying to flatter her, and I don't hope she reads this. Why would I?

What if they just remaster it with more appropriate music?

I used to love Jaws: The Revenge as a kid and got the idea that for movie sequels, the 4th one wasn't "[movie name] 4" but always "[movie name]: The Revenge".

Ladybird wasn't terrible, but it didn't strike me as being all that special either.  What daring new ground did it break?  A 23 year old actress playing a highschool girl? That's normal Hollywood bullshiat.  A daughter and her mom fighting all the time and finding some small reconciliation and understanding by the film's end?  Yawn - been there done that a billion times.  A highschool kid abandoning a friend to try and get with the in crowd and then coming back to their real friend?  That's a tired theme. Highschoolers having disappointing and awkward relationships?  No kidding.

What exactly was the film?  I dunno - it was a thing.  I saw it.  I am rapidly forgetting it.  Hell, Dazed and Confused had more to say about growing up and transitioning into and out of high school.

Agreed. I keep forgetting that site exists, and stumble back upon it every 6 months or so. And when I do, there are always tons of new scripts to read.

So is Greta Gerwig the writer/director version of Téa Leone?

Being an old, I've watched about as many teenaged emo angsty movies and TV shows as I can stomach.

That said, Laurie Metcalf kicked some serious ass in the role of the Mom in Ladybird.

The scene where the parents take their daughter to the airport to leave for college is very powerful stuff.

Laurie Metcalf was fantastic in that role.

It's too bad the movie, while entertaining, was very forgettable.

Pretty much this. I enjoyed the movie, but didn't understand all the hype.

Reminds me of Silver Linings Playbook. Decent movie. Don't get why everyone was so in love with it.
