Government then becomes a Fox News caricature of it - a collection of timeservers, toadies and incompetents.

All part of the plan.

One served honorably in the Trump administration by resigning immediately after the appointment

As a political appointee, no. As a civil servant, yes. Problem is, many non-partisan civil servants are leaving because they cannot serve such a decisive administration. It's by design.

watching trump pretend to listen to those parents and kids talk about gun violence was almost painful to watch.  its clear Donny has no empathy for others, least to me anyways.  his expressions went from bored indifference to vague confusion and back to bored indifference.  i'm not even sure Donny knew why he was even in that room in the first place.

between the porn star sex scandals, the Mueller investigation, and Donny's petty vindictive style of governing the lies and corruption in the federal government has seen explosive levels of growth.  our foreign allies cannot trust us, and we're being cut out of every major treaty coming down the pike.  Donny refuses to admit when he's made mistakes, and sees even mild criticism as a direct, personal attack and responds with overwhelming levels of bile and hate.

and round and round we go, but for how much longer is the question nobody seems to be able to answer.  I guess we continue to pretend everything's fine until we are no longer able to play pretend anymore and have to confront the realities of life under a thugocracy.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Is it possible to lop your head off with a chainsaw and walk around without bumping into things for the next several days?

Yes.

In fact I'd bet no one ever lopped their own head off with a chainsaw and then bump into something while walking.

Sure, if you strap a recording device on in an attempt to show America / Mueller who their current government officials really are. If you're trying to bring corruption to light from the inside, I could see that as a twisted way to serve honorably.

Just don't expect to be thanked for that service, because you still stood next to this dude and smiled for a photo, even if under cover - that picture will be slipped under your hospital room door one day with a note "good riddance to you." And then we'll all go pee on Trump's grave.

The first real crisis we have is going to tip everything over. We can coast through a lot of things because of gov. workers and the military having plans in place in case of several situations, but the first unexpected or military conflict event is going to take leadership from the top to weather the storm and Trumps hair can't handle even a slight breeze.

That is going to be the day that we are going to collectively stare into the abyss as a country.

look how badly trump handled Puerto Rico, and how he's dropped the ball on gun violence.  Donny is completely out of his depth, and he's surrounded himself with corrupt thugs and con artists as ranking members of his administration.

you're right - we are not ready for any sort of major crisis.  Donny isn't remotely prepared to guide this country thru a rough patch.

no, they're perfectly sane.  total and complete assholes mind you, but sane and rational.  they just believe humanity is weak and needs to be firmly and completely controlled at all times, from cradle to grave, or they'll discover masturbation and burn in hell for all eternity, because that's how their god of love rolls.

but totally sane.  completely.  yup, no problems here at all.

Ancient recipe for forgiveness:
Step 1: Write down your sins on small paper
Step 2. Roll paper and attach to a goat
Step 3: Send the goat into the desert to die, along with your sins
Step 4: Blessed Forgiveness happens

Now if you're saying there are so many sins that there might need to be more than on goat... I'm ready to hear your suggestions for goat #2.

Take this to it's exteme though. The US government is built on longitudinal continuity. Lets say even 50% of people quit. It would be nigh impossible for the goverment to function let alone rebuild later. At some point one has to realize that there are some good people in there holding down what fort they can trying to bridge to a better day. But sure, shiat on them.

I saw this article last year. Some older Republican suggested that people shouldn't be accepting job offers to work for the Trump administration just yet. To wait and see if some maturity showed from that workplace before potential workers endangered their career by having that experience on their resume. I don't think it was the same opinionator that wrote this piece but I'm wondering if he'd have a different take on working for the administration now, like:

Get out now, and lawyer up!

Just think of it this way: Would you want to admit to it in 40 years, to either grandchildren or your friend sitting beside you in the sun room at the old folks' home? No? Then don't do it. Wait it out. Government later will need plenty of help sorting through the rubble of this administration.

All the civil servants doing it because it's their job and it gives them a paycheck are pretty much fine, or at least there are no more of them that are incompetent/corrupt/etc than in any normal job.

The appointed positions, though?  No, it's not possible.  Sorry to be the one to break it to you, General Mattis.

I've come to the harsh realization that we live united in one country, but exist in separate worlds, passing by each other every day. We are not on the same plain or even same planet, despite the fact that we are physically together in line at the grocery store.

These people exist amongst us. We travel right past each other.  But these people believe that Barack Obama was probably Kenyan. They are able to lead outwardly normal lives, yet at the same time think that we should teach the controversy. There they are, right next to you at your kid's soccer game, but they believe climate change is a hoax. You stood next to them waiting for the traffic light to change, wholly unaware that they believed it would all trickle down.

I used to think "yeah, some people believe that stuff, but there's always that wacky 5%, right!"

But no, they are here. Right beside us. In equal or greater numbers. It's terrifying.

Republicans - hate government. So while they are in charge of it, of course they govern poorly.
Then they say "See? I told you the government is wasteful and inefficient! "

The only person serving honorably is the White House chef, and even that's borderline.
