Oh good. I can't tell you how many nights I lay awake silently outraged over the improper portrayal of a crustacean which by the very nature of it's genus classification has a segmented body that is bilaterally symmetrical, with MORE THAN FOUR pairs of jointed appendages. Finally, there is justice for the lowly Nephropidae

When I saw that header, I was expecting a more realistic heart option.

So is there going to be an emoji for every single thing that exists? I'm trying to figure what anyone would use a lobster emoji for and why can't they just type out the word lobster...I don't understand any of this.

See what a STEM career can do, kids?  It's like the attractive people in lab coats that devote their years to increasing hair "volume" in shampoos and conditioners.

I'm sure it will prove of immense use to the marine biologists out there.  Valuable time saved when they Tweet their research to US magazine.

No, it wasn't. The emoji is still the Unicode character LOBSTER. One random site that publishes clip art aimed at font designers fixed their clip art.

The problem with emoji is that there are just way too many of them, and searching for one takes forever.  Emoji need to show up as suggestions while typing based on keywords, otherwise they're just not going to get used.

It was a sample image from the Unicode Consortium.

Another problem - I am on a desktop monitor and the emoji show up as a roughly 6 pixel wide yellow blob (for the most part) and I have absolutely no idea which one it is. On a mobile device they may be fine, but on a desktop they are useless.

Hello, I am back and have read through your emails and accept that despite missing a leg, that drawing of a spider may indeed be the one I sent you. I realise with hindsight that it is possible you rejected the drawing of a spider due to this obvious limb ommission but did not point it out in an effort to avoid hurting my feelings. As such, I am sending you a revised drawing with the correct number of legs as full payment for any amount outstanding. I trust this will bring the matter to a conclusion.
Regards, David.

Most everything goes through periods of simplicity and complexity. Right now we're at the point where character codes have gone from 127 different symbols (ASCII) to about 100,000 (Unicode). So yeah, there's a code for lobster.

In 50 years, the President will speak only in Emoji.

And most people will still understand her.
